DW/DL & USO/USH same thing??

We are taking a cruise in Jan 2011 out of Los Angeles (San Pedro Port) and I was wondering if Disneyland & Universal Studios were the same as the ones in Orlando? We've been to both in Orlando numerous times....and if they are the same...I would probably just pass on both and instead do something else for a small pre-cruise trip. I'm only working with maybe 1 or 2 full days of sightseeing. Thanks!!!

The original Disney park is Disneyland and in California. The original Universal Studios is in Hollywood. Since they are the originals the question really is whether MK (at WDW) and USO are the same as DL and USH. Those two are the "copies".

For DL and MK, they are similar but definitely not the same. DL has 30% more rides than MK and more headliners like Indiana Jones Adventure. The Disneyland Resort also has a unique park called Disney's California Adventure (DCA). It is kind of similar to Disney Hollywood Studios in WDW.

As for Universal Studios, I have never been to USO. I have been to USH numerous times. USH is an actual working studio where they film major television shows and movies. It has rides, but the best part of it IMO are the studio tours.

Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood have very little in common. Orlando's version is a standard theme park - very high quality, but not a full fledged working studio with a huge backlot tour such as Hollywood.

Hollywood backlot "attractions" such as Jaws and Earthquake are experienced as part of the tram tour. Elements of these attractions are echoed at UO's Disaster and more fully fleshed out Jaws ride.

Both parks have Simpsons rides (clones), Terminator 3D, Shrek 4D, and Jurassic Park (UH and IOA). Although both Hollywood and Orlando boast Mummy coasters, they only share a theme. We find Orlando's circuit vastly more thrilling and complete.

Someone has expressed the differences between Disneyland and WDW like this: "Disneyland was a park built by a father for his daughters. WDW was built by a corporation for the masses." While I do not think that's fair to the people (including Roy) who built WDW as a tribute to Walt, I do think there's a special warmth and charm to Disneyland that the MK lacks.

I haven't been to the US Hollywood for a long time, but it used to be a great little tour and I think since I've been they have added the rides that mimic the ones in Orlando. We liked the Orlando one, but the kids were a lot younger then, they would probably like it even more now that they are teens, since they have rides like the Hulk, Dueling Dragons, etc. Now that Harry Potter is in USO, I'm sure it will be busier than ever. I would say that the two parks have similarities, but like Hydroguy said, the one in Hollywood is a working studio, the other is not. Have a great cruise, which cruise lines are you using?

We are doing a cruise out of Long Beach Jan 2011, too. Once we dock, we are getting off the ship and heading straight for Disneyland !

Disneyland is the same as Magic Kingdom in WDW, with a few different rides. But, you can also do Cal. Adventure which is right across from Disneyland.

Cal. Adventure has some cool rides, a few which you will find in WDW.

Last time we were at USH they had paid passes for front of line.
