Hi everyone!

I am interested in knowing if there is such a product that I could record my VHS tapes (home movies) and put photographs on a playable DVD.

I'm not the "techie" in our family and since it's a surprise for him - anyone that can help out or at least point me in a direction that is not techo-babble would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Rae

I recently purchased a combination VCR/DVD unit that allows dubbing from VHS to DVD or DVD to VHS. You can also record on VHS or DVD from TV. My unit is by Sanyo, but I know they also have a Panasonic unit. Mine cost about $400. If you want to record on DVD, you will need DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. If you record on DVD-R, you cannot edit or record over what you've recorded. You can continue to record until the disc is full. If you use DVD-RW, you can edit your recordings and record over previously recorded data until you finalize the disc. Mine came with software that I can use on my PC to edit what I have recorded. With DVD-RW, it allows you to name the disc, name each of the things you record. You can edit out things like commercials. Both discs can be recorded at different speeds. I am using SLP which allows me to put about 6 hours worth of recording on a disc. I am currently organizing my VHS tapes that I have recorded on disc. It takes awhile, but I'm sure it will be great when I finish.

Hope this helps!

Wow! Yeah, that helps! But can you take your snapshots from your photo album and record them on DVD.

I have heard that it can be done, but who knows if that's true and how!

Again, thanks for that info - your unit sounds perfect!

To put photos onto a DVD, you probably need a PC with a DVD burner, a scanner, and some software. As far as I know, there aren't any DVD recorders (yet) that have the capability of importing still pictures and making a slideshow. But if you wait long enough, I'm sure that someone will come out with a consumer friendly product to do just what you'd like to do with your photos.

Thanks, sweetie! I knew I was onto something, now if only I could invent a little machine that we could "feed" pictures into and have them recorded on the DVD player....now that would be a pretty neat little invention.

Now to just surprise DH with this!

Hugs,
Rae
