I know this is a silly question , but my head is all in disney mode, and I can't think straight (2days to go!!!). But do dvd's have to be in pal format or doesn't it matter? Just thought I might pick up some dvds if there cheap enough.
Thanks
Jeanette:eek: 2 days!!!

Just thought is it only videos that you can buy in pal format? Or am I having a thick moment... ;)

Netty if your DVD player is a multi region player then you can buy DVD'S from america & they will play ok in the uk it's all down to your player and not the DVD discs.

Hope this helps you.

Not a silly question at all!

We bought two DVDs in Walmart in Canada this summer, never giving a thought to the format. We also bought a video and were very careful to ensure that was PAL! It just didn't occur to us that DVDs came in different formats. We soon found out when we tried to play them at home.

However, because we'd bought them in Walmart, we asked at our local Asda store whether we could return them there, and they couldn't have been more obliging. :) They offered to give us either a refund or an exchange - the same DVDs were in stock, so we exchanged them.

Just another quick pointer. You may have a multi-region player, but make sure that your telly can show NTSC pictures as well. Most of the more modern TV's will, but some older ones will only show a black & white picture of a NTSC output player.

Some players, even cheaper ones, can output a NTSC picture (US telly pictures) as a PAL one so even older tellys can watch in colour too. We have one that does this and it only cost £80 about 6 months back so the same player is probably dirt cheap now.

If it's any consolation I've found that DVDs in the Orlando shops are not particularly cheap. If you are looking to save a few quid it's better to buy them mail order - either from the UK or overseas.

ok thanks Rob.
what mail order do you use for dvds?
hope you don't mind me asking:D

Netty I buy piles (I mean piles!) Of DDVS mail order from PLAY.COM Youll never find cheaper on the net believe me,Have a great holiday!

play.com are pretty good, dvd.co.uk and cd-wow.com can also have good bargains.

Regards

Rob

I've found the best site to start with is a price checking one such as DVD Price check on this one you can state whether you wish to look for UK (region2) or other region DVD's it'll then check with most of the better Internet DVD sites and let you know the quickest.

I've often used:
Play as they are reliable and prices aren't bad
SplashDVD are cheap but take ages to deliver
CDWOW who tend to be cheap and fast, but have not got a huge range
DVDPopCorn - I've only used these twice, cheap but slow and like CDWOW and Splash debit card on order

and don't discount Amazon either as some of their new releases are well priced as long as you can get over the £25 mark for free delivery.

Now Region1 's there's another thing all together.

(Who buys alot of DVD's can you tell?)

eBay is also a great place to buy brand-new DVD's in all types of formats and regions :)

I've done a little research on the whole multi-region issue recently on behalf of my SIL in Australia. My nephew wants the Tarzan DVD, but since Disney still use the 7 year release cycle for Videos/DVDs by the time he can get it there he will be too old to watch it!

It appears that quite a few models can be turned into multi-region players by simply entering the correct unlock code into the Remote Control! The following site has detais:-

Alas her's isn't one of them so we will go down the safer video route. I was also pretty glad that our model wasn't on the list either, since we paid above RRP to get it chipped when we bought it :)
