Does anyone know if the resorts have DVD players int he rooms, or if any are available? We are headed to the WL in a few weeks, and I was wondering if I shoudl bring some of my son's favorites incase of bad weather or if he just needs them.

If you are in a regular resort room, none of them have anything except a TV. The DVC one and two bedroom and GrandVillas have vcrs in the living room, except for BCV, which has a DVD player.

Once you get to your resort, check the TV and see if it has the coaxial jacks (I think that's the kind the DVD player needs) If it does, you can go to Target, and pick one up for about $40, and just ship it back home. I recently vacationed in North Carolina, and had brought many DVDs, but there was no player. I bought one at Target, used it, and shipped it the day before I left. :)

It's an extreme measure, but if it's a DVD emergency.....:jester:

Most DVDs use RCA jackes (the red, white, and yello little circle plugs). Does anyone know if the resort TVs have these, and are the accessible? If they are on the back, bottom of the TV (which many are) it might not be possible to access them.

RCA jacks. Thank you! I knew I had that wrong! :)

I'm not sure if the resort TVs have them, but the back panel of the TV is accessible I believe. But someone else will have to give you a more definitive answer.

Or, you can call the resort directly and ask, which may be the best thing to do.

Radio Shack (and other stores) sell a converter to turn DVD player RCA and S-Video output into coax. About $30 or less.

Do be careful, I know *some* hotels monitor the cable signal to the TVs at all times to tell when they have been disconnected (i.e. to know when one is being stolen).

Obviously that's not the case with you!! But this might be one case where asking permission might be better than asking forgiveness?

Also, I have a friend with a portable DVD player (7" lcd screen) that has output jacks to play on a TV. More expensive than a cheapy DVD player, but maybe more useful? Just a thought.

Dan,

Was your WISH Goal clippie there before? I can't believe I didn't notice. Congrats. What a trophy :)

I was thinking the same thing about a portable DVD player. They've come down in price quite a bit and you could use it on the plane, too.

Plutosmyfav,

My WISH clipart has been there for a while. Since about May I think :) Thanks!!

And I hadn't even thought of the portable DVD player, but that too is an even better option.

I was thinking of getting a portable DVD player for plane & hotel. Do the "cheap" ones (under $200) have 2 headsets? Wouldn't I need 2 for the plane with my 2 kids? Would I drive other passengers crazy if we didn't have headsets?

We bought a little adapter thing from radio shack for about $5. It turns one headset jack into two!! So, even if your DVD has only one headset jack, there is still a cheap option.

I love my cheapie DVD player - not only does it make airplane travel a breeze for my 3 1/2 yo. (yes, bring headphones); but we also bring it with us to sit-down restaurants (Not the types of places where I shouldn't probably be bringing him in the first place - just regular restaurants) - and after he is done with his dinner, he can watch a few minutes of his favorite DVD (with headphones) while we finish our dinner in peace- everyones happy!! I bought a second battery for ours ($40) for longer airplane trips (the battery last about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs); also remember to bring your recharger and recharge as needed.

I bought a portable DVD player just before this last trip.. it was a lifesaver in the airport, on the plane etc... my DD9 used it all the time.

During the big power outage it was the hit of the neighbourhood. :)

It also hooks up to the TV and runs DVD's on it.. just like a regular player.

You can buy a little adaptor that lets you plug 2 head sets into it at once.

Here is a link to the DVD info

Is the 2 1/2 hour battery enough for airport wait and flight. Can I find a place to plug it in at airport? Can you buy extra battery?

Thanks for the link >>^..^<<, that DVD is on sale at Bestbuy for $179.99. I see others for $300-$800 and its good to hear that the $200 works well!

I used my portable DVD player in Laguardia Airport in NYC. I was using the battery when I noticed a guy down the row using a laptop that was plugged into an outlet on the floor! I noticed several outlets around the sitting area----Unfortunately my adapter was in the checked luggage so I continued using my battery!

I love my DVD. We call it 'belly telly' because I sometimes watch it in bed! LOL!
[And I have the little adapter that splits the earphone jack in two--very handy!
Hope this helps!:Pinkbounc

We love the portable DVD players, too. My son is on his third!

In a regular hotel room it's nice because he can watch a movie on it with his earphones while we watch something else on TV. He also enjoys sitting on the patio or balcony and watching while he draws.

I knew the price was coming down but didn't know as low as $200. That's great.
