DVD Player?

We have a small portable DVD player with a flip-up screen that we have used in the car. I'm wondering what others do on the plane and in the room with two small kids? I was thinking we would bring the Ipad with a few movies and games. I assumed that our room at AoA would have a DVD player, but it doesn't? Do you think we would need a DVD player to help them relax at night? Or will they be so wiped out, it won't be necessary? Or are there enough TV channels to choose from? I don't want to depend on the in-room WiFi for streaming Netflix, because I doubt that will be strong enough. We'll be flying, so I don't want to bring something we don't need. What would you do?

I don't have kids yet so I might not be the best person to answer this question. When I worked there I saw a lot of parents pushing their kids past their normal limits so that they could see everything Disney had to offer. By the end of the night I couldn't count how many children were passed out in their strollers/being carried out of the park. Between just doing more then a normal day and not taking regular break/naps I think kids tend to be tired at the end of the day. Lets be honest it is more walking then most adults are use to so you too will also be tired by the end of the night.

So, no I don't think that you will NEED the movie at the end of the night, but if you want to bring it just in case it wouldn't hurt. And you are right, don't ever depend on the Wifi at the hotel to stream anything.

My kids have always passed out as soon as they get back to the room. The only time they watch TV at Disney is when mommy and daddy need a nap mid-day and they don't want to nap, lol, they just watch TV.

What airline are you flying? Jet Blue has TV's for each seat, you just need to bring headphones.

Last trip we did not need movies at night because the kids were so tired. We did use them at rest time for the days we took a break, although we were offsite and did have a DVD player in our condo. Not sure about AoA. But we were also driving and space was less of an issue. How old are your kiddos and how long is the flight?

my girls loved watching the Duffy show (basically a bed time story read on one of the channels) at night last trip. I would leave the dvd player home. Its just another thing to keep track of. Will they wear earphones because on the plane they will need to.

Another no vote - if you were driving and would need if for the car then by all means it would be a yes. Flying another story all together and you won't need it at night. They will pass out of like the offerings of the Disney channels

Thanks for all the replies! My boys are 4 & 7 and we'll have a 3.5 hour direct flight from MN. I think they should be okay on the flight between coloring, snacks, books, and the Ipad. I don't understand why they don't have DVD players at the hotel though. I had kind of wanted to have some themed DVD's like Nemo, Lion King and Cars since we'll be staying at AoA. Oh Well. They will probably just crash at night anyway.

The only way you will get a DVD player in your room is if you stay club level at a deluxe or in a DVC room.

I have 2 young kids and we travel a lot. If you have a 3.5 hour flight, I'd still bring all your tricks with you. Things happen and the worst thing when traveling is to have your kids run out of things to do. If you are traveling on a plane, they can become annoying to other passengers. I've had planes get delayed and spent several hours with my kids in airports where we couldn't leave the area because our plane could arrive pretty quickly. I'd take your dvd player and a few dvds in a portable carrying case. We actually own several kindle fires with movies and games loaded on them, plus 2 dvd players. I also always pack the charging cords just in case in my carry-on. Play it safe and bring more than you think you'll need to keep them busy. I also bring several surprises that I don't tell them about until I need to pull them out. I highly recommend Travel Tangoes (look on Amazon).
