Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm hoping someone can answer my question. Lately whenever we play a DVD in our player, the sound fades and then rises again. Seems to effect all DVDs. Can you clean a DVD player like you can with a VHS head cleaner, or is something else going on. Seems like a simple problem and I'm hoping it has a simple solution so I don't have to go by a new system! TIA!!:wave2:

Any chance you are running the audio from the DVD through a receiver? Is it all DVDs or just certain ones?

If it affecting all DVD's like you said you can get a lense cleaner and try that but I would think you may have more issues than just that. You may want to start looking for a replacement for it.

I think it seems to affect all DVDs...some only once in a while, some all through the movie. I don't think we have any receivers, so I guess that isn't the problem. This DVD player is only 2 years old...how long should they last?

Some last quite a long time some do not. I had a sony that only lasted just over a year long enough to be out of warranty when the laser picup went on it. We had a Toshiba that lasted 4.5 years before it was stolen when our house was broken into. We have a replacement Sony for the one that died and it is on the way out to. The kids have a cheap Magnavox one that we got at the same time as our new Sony and it is still going strong and it was only 99.00 dollars the Sony one was 450.00 bucks. I will never buy another Sony product again even our 32" Sony Vega TV has had to be repaird 5 times in under 3 years. Our Samsung DLP TV is great. So my reccomendations to you would be look at a Toshiba as a replacement for the current one.
