DVD donations to troops?

Anyone know of an organization that handles DVD donations to troops? I have a lot of new and used DVDs that I'd like to send out to the troops, but not sure which organizations are reputable. Can anyone help?

Have you tried Anysoldier.com? That site will give you names and contact info of soldiers who are willing to act as a liaison in distributing care packages to troops as well as an idea of what kinds of movies would be of interest to a particular soldier or unit.

The organization that I work for does. http://www.give2thetroops.org The good thing about Give 2 The Troops is we send to the entire unit and not just one soldier.

Thanks for these awesome replies, will visit all the suggested sites! It would be a pretty big pacakge of DVDs, so I would hope that even if we sent to just one solider, s/he would share with the rest of the troop.

I don't know of any organizations that do this, but it is a very generous thing for you to think of doing.

If anyone out there wants to do some good for our troops, especially since sending boxes to unnamed soldiers is no longer allowed, ask at your local USO. My DD's Confirmation Class went to a packet-stuffing event at our local base. I went along, too, as one of the chaperones. It was *wonderful*. All the groups that day stuffed *15,000* packets!!!
I kept on thinking that there was a serviceperson at the end of the packet, who would think of home and know that he or she is not forgotten.

Don't know if this is too late for your project, but this deployed soldier is looking for DVDs to share with his soldiers stationed throughout the Middle East. His most recent posting was earlier this month and he wrote that he would like to receive more movies. He is deployed to Bahrain & expects to be there until Jan 2007.

Now don’t even think about grabbing that dusty DVD your annoying second cousin gave you for a birthday present three years ago.

Think about movies that made you cry or laugh out loud in the middle of a theater.

These are the movies I’d like to get from you in order to start a movie library for my soldiers stationed throughout the Middle East.

I mean everyone has a favorite movie. You know, that special movie you can watch over and over again by yourself or with someone special.

So I'd like for you to send us your favorite movie on DVD.

But there's a catch.

With each movie sent, I want you to attach a note telling us what makes it your favorite movie (i.e. how it touched you, special memories, favorite scenes, why you relate to it, etc). I'm not asking for a lengthy review, just a small note with your personal thoughts.

Write your thoughts on a 3x5 card and insert it inside of the DVD case. Please include your email and/or mailing address.

I am currently stationed in Bahrain and my unit supports plenty of soldiers in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Afghanistan who would love to watch them. My request to them will be, if possible, to write or email back to you a small note telling you how the movie touched them.

This is a wonderful gift and a great way to connect with deployed soldiers because it comes from the heart...

You can send any movie, from any genre (classics, sci-fi, comedy, children’s, action, drama, etc.) and duplicates are fine. Remember, it's your favorite... (Just go easy on the “chick flicks” – after all, we’re guys…)
