DVD cleaners?

The other night we rented a movie and it had those little skipping places in it, several times, but we got to see all the movie, and when I took it out of the DVD player, sure enough, 3 smudges on it.

I checked out cleaners online, and decided to get the "wipes" because they seemed the simpleist(is that a word?) Well, Walmart didn't have them, I haven't looked anywhere else yet.

What do you use? If you put smudged and dusty DVDs in your player, will it mess up your player?

If it is just smudges, I would just wipe them with a soft cloth. If it is goo, then maybe a cleaner, but I am pretty sure you would have something already in your house that you could use.
