DVCers who have rented points...

What a great and very true statement Kickapoo!

I agree with those that said that renters that show that much distrust are not worth renting to. It takes all the self-restraint for me to muster not to reply to the questions on these boards when the thread headline is "how is a rentee guaranteed not to get screwed?"

I have only rented a couple of times and both times it was very pleasant.
I trusted them, they trusted me. End of story.

There is an new one of "those" threads and while I didn't remember your name, Muushka, I did remember your comments.

While I am a new member, first trip home in May, I find renters somewhat amusing. Will I rent, you can really never say never, it looks like making a transfer to a fellow DVC member might be easier.

Well, I have never rented before, but it sounds to me that if you are going through all of this trouble just to help someone out and they dont want to rent, PLEASE email me!!!! I would be more than happy to rent from someone as honest as you!!

Oh goody. I will have to go find that thread and bite my tongue!!:scared:

I agree about the transfer to another member. Much easier. But there are some renters that are just such a pleasure to work with. They come into the deal knowing exactly how everything works. They did their homework.

Well I read the R/T board for amusement, absolutely loved the ones that were looking for ressies at the beginning of Dec. for Xmas & NYE. Must be the ones that didin't do their homework, they would reply to every new thread. Like their was some DVC conspiracy to keep renters out by saying "DVC is booked full for Xmas & NYE 3 weeks out." Duh!

Thanks Jason. That's sweet. I am near completion at this point. This thread has become a little about my renters. I really posted to make sure I was quoting facts. I fully understand, and realize my part, on why it has gone elsewhere. And probably needed to. Appreciate the support of everyone of course.

However, I just want to reiterate that my renters, being first timers of course, were just searching for something that isn't there, a "guarantee". I came on this thread to dispute claims of paypal alleviating anything. They were simply extremely surprised at how much "trust" it takes to be a renter here on DIS or anywhere for that matter. And I fully understand where they were coming from. Any of my responses to their search, on this thread, are about me acknowleging/realizing that it is alright/quite frankly the best for owners to simply say once, maybe twice to newbies, "that's it....that's the fact.....I have to move on". And that owners can't keep trying to figure this out. And that I did too much of. Naive of me. I know. But my heart was in the right place. But that part was a mistake. Not to answer questions at all but to debate "guarantees" at all. There is simply nothing to debate/discuss. You have all taught me so much and your words, as I"ve said, have been invaluable in so many ways. Seems emotional, it is.

With no disrespect to my renters, as they truly did not want to see me work so hard...not their intent at all, they were in the end very lucky to have me. I know that clearly. As do they. Because I know that it is common practice here, as it should be, to not try to "fix" this issue. An issue that can't be fixed. And I, as well as them because they have acknowledged personally to me, know that I went way beyond any duty.

So if you are "potential" newbie renters reading this post..... fantastic. Lesson learned for many. Good place to start. Remember that although renting points is a fantastic deal it is not for everyone. And that's simply "okay". All the best to all of you out there.

A very important statement for renters. While the majority go off without a hitch, for I believe most people are honest, decent folk, there truly is no guarantee until they check in. If the bargain they are getting is not worth that, then they need to walk away and call CRO.

Well put Lisa. And potential rentees, read read and read. And when you have a complete understanding of what goes on, then contact an owner.
