We owe Dvc and have a trip planned for nov on our points for this yr and next yrs points for a 10 person trip in a grand villa but when free dining came out for sept. my dh and I went for it. Leaving kids with grandmother lol. ESP when the dates we chose also included the Halloween party. Which I have now purchased tics for. Our aps expire in June so I plan to renew before then and just not activate until nov

Did others dvcers do this too?

FYI, If you "renew" your AP's they will have a June expiration date 1 year later than you have now. If you want them to become active in November you will need to purchase a new AP rather than renew. IMO for a lapse of 5 months like you are looking at now I would spend the few extra $ to get a new pass rather than renew and waste 5 months of non-use. I've done this myself when I know I will have a long lapse between my AP expiration & my next trip. Watch for announcements of ticket price increases & purchase the new AP voucher as late as possible. You activate it when you go to the park even though you can purchase it ahead of time.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Your title says something about free dining, but you're asking if other dvc'ers renewed their APs like that? I'm not sure.

Anyway, what pp said is true. If you renew, your expiration date remains the same regardless of when it is "activated". I would also buy it new and spend the extra $$ so as not to waste money on the time of non use.

Which resort did you pick? With 2 people, sometimes you are better off with the % discount. You have to get tickets with free dining, you could apply them to your next AP but you would have to do that in person. I agree that if you are not using the AP between June and Nov (Sept?) to just buy a new one on the next trip and use the tickets from free dining as a credit.
