Okay,
Who knew about DVC? I can't believe I didn't know about it sooner. I am renting points to get a 2 BR. Villa at Saratoga Springs for 5 nights and it's costing me $1720 for the 5 nights ($344 per night...rather than the $665 quoted when I searched the disney site). I've done all the reference checking and spoken on the phone. It all seems good.

Also, I'm getting a MK View studio for 5 nights in November for $200 per night. Not sure what the normal cost is, but this is saving us and our guests a bunch of money.

i went to *********** site (www.****************) and search and posted until someone could make the reservations I needed.

Hope this helps someone.

I did...I am a DVC member...if you can rent points it will always be a great deal...

I'm so confused on the renting points and it's frightening on their side of the board. I would love to rent points for our wedding (my parents would like a 2 BR Villa, I just need a regular room) to save money. I have no idea how to go about doing that and how that would work if we get a free night due to our reservation amount or would those nights count towards the 25 reservation nights total?

Any reservation counts toward your minimum as long as it's on property. Luckily we decided to buy into DVC two years ago and have loved every minute of it, makes for planning trips a lot easier to plan/save for. I do recommend renting points as it saves you a lot of money! On the top of the rent board there is a thread with tons of information on how to do it!

As Erin said, any reservation at a Disney-owned hotel will count toward your room-night minimum. However, only reservations at the hotels in your room block will count toward the number required for a free night, so you would want to be sure the DVC resorts you're using are added to it.

We rented points at two different resorts during our honeymoon and saved a bundle. :)

What you do is find a DVC member (usually through a point-trading site or the aforementioned scary Rent/Trade board in the DVC section of the DIS) who has points s/he isn't using and arrange to rent them for a certain amount per point. You can find out how many points you need for your stay by looking at the points charts posted on the DIS or other online DVC member communities. For instance, say a reservation in a studio at BWV for Sun-Thurs is 13 points per night. If you rent points at $11 a point, you're getting your stay for $143/night - far below the $300+ rack rate.

It takes trust on your part because the member controls the reservation at all times - as a guest, you can't phone up DVC and check on it. When you are thinking about renting from a member, check their posts on the DIS to see if they're a longstanding community member or just someone who signed up last week to rent their points.

Usually the member makes the reservation and sends you the printed confirmation from DVC, and you pay the member half the cost of your reservation (Paypal is good for this). Then you pay the balance a month or two before your arrival date - it depends on when the member would need to cancel the reservation to get his/her points back if you flaked.

That FAQ on the DVC Board is super-helpful! :thumbsup2

sorry about posting a website. ! I was just happy that I got such a cheap rate.

We had went through the DVC Members board here and are renting points to stay at the Boardwalk Gran Villa. Of course you need to do your research as well. We are saving a lot of money that we can apply to our weddding or honeymoon!!!

Really? I did not know that... Bummer...

I am a DVC member, and we are using our points for rooms at the Boardwalk for my daughter's August wedding. Unfortunately, she moved her wedding date from Jan. 2011 to August 2010, meaning the room availability at 7 months out was not as good as it would have been at 11 months out. But we have rooms, just not a Grand Villa like we wanted. I have rented out my points the last two years to help pay my maintenance fees/dues and college expenses for two oldest daughters. This year, we are sending our son to college in August(he just got his acceptance letter from NC State) as well as the two oldest daughters. The one getting married still has a year left, the second daughter has two. While it may be a little risky to rent points from a stranger, it's just as scary for most DVC members. A renter can leave a bill unpaid that will be attached to the DVC member's contract, they can damage property, they can back out of the rental before paying, leaving the member with points he/she can not use, etc. Most members who rent out their points are honest, and will freely share why they are renting this year instead of using their points. Someone who is a long-time member and poster to the DIS boards is probably a good choice to rent from. Members can make reservations as early as 11 months from check-in at their home resort, so to get the room type and view you want it's best to reserve as close to then as possible. Renting DVC points is a great way to get deluxe accomodations for moderate prices. Just read over the FAQ on the Rent/Trade board and be sure you understand what you are getting before you jump in!

I got a PIN Code for deluxes (40%) off but I think that I may book a 1BR at VWL because it's still a better deal. $1700 for 4 nights at GF or $2000 for 6 nights in a 1BR with more space.

I agree with Mic, it's scary on both sides of the fence, you need to do your homework, make sure they are DVC Members and are current on their dues, and always ask for references. If everything works well, then you have established yourself with the DVC member and you may have the ability to rent from thema again, in the future. :cool1:

DVC really is amazing. my fiancee and i have 410 points since we work all the time, and when we want to play, we want to get away from home. 210 is what is reccommended for a family of four, (we like the europe trips so we have more) and it saves you TONS on vacations for 20+ years! look into it!
