Yesterday afternoon I was walking down memory lane looking at previous Disney pics & got the itch to go back. Talking with my husband we decided to go in August this year for 10 days (whoop whoop)! Not sure which DVC resort we are going to stay at but we are taking 3 of our 5 children (13, 10 & 4). We decided we are getting a 2 bedroom villa so we have plenty of room for the kids to run around & not completely consume the living room with all their stuff.

Anyway, my question is.... since we are going for 10 days are we able to purchase a 7 day dining plan? We always have extra meals left over at the end of our trip & it will save us approximately $500. If we can, do the 7 days need to be used consecutively? My thought was have lunch a couple times in our room, possibly a dinner or two.

We're buying our tix thru Undercover Tourist & are getting the 10 day park tix with the fun days added since we've never had the pleasure of experiencing Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach. We thought with the extra days we'll have, we'll be able to enjoy a leisurely Disney vacation. We've always crammed everything into 6 or 7 days.

My understanding is that you can now split the reservaton up so you can have the DDP added to a portion of your stay, but the DDP still is valid only on the nights covered, so 7 nights of credits would not be spread throughout the length of a 10 day reservation.

You are able to do this now. My suggestion is to let MS know when you are booking that you want to segment as you are thinking of adding the DDP to some nights later on.

The DDP gets paid for now when it is added to the reservation (vs. at check in) so many will wait to actually add closer to travel time--it can be added and paid for up to 48 hours in advance.

I have read that it is much easier for them to add the DDP to reservations that were booked as segments from the start.

We booked our August trip before the change and are considering doing one or two nights of one of the plans but got the last SV 2 bedroom at BLT for our time frame and really don't want to mess that up. I have read that there must be availability still to segment after the reservation has been made.

Good luck!

People reserving now should segment when they reserve in order to add the dining plan to only some of the reservation later. However, Sandisw, I was told by a supervisor that if you booked befor the change in October, there does not have to be availability to segment it. Call at an off-peak time (like late afternoon) and ask to speak to a supervisor.

OP, they don't have to be consecutive. For example, you could get the plan for days 2,3,4; your credits would start when you get your new keys on day 2 and expire on midnight of day 5, so you can catch up that day. Then you could get it again for days 6,7,8; credits expire midnight on day 9. You're without it on check-in and check-out day, but you have paid for 6 days and have the credits spread out over 8 days.

That's 5 different segments, though, so I hope they have the key & checking in and out business sorted out by then! Of course, if you make the segmented reservation first, and later decide not to do the DDP that way, you can just link the reservations, and it's no problem.

As for the problems people have reported about having to get new keys for each segment, I can only say I hope they have that sorted out soon.
