Do you have friends that are maybe Disney lovers, but don't seem to get DVC. I mean we all "DVC differently" right?? No two DVC'ers are alike!! I have several DVC friends and we all have a lot in common, but not everything and that is OKAY. However ...does it ever bother you when someone just makes comments and JUST DOESN'T GET DVC???? OR AT LEAST THE WAY YOU DVC?? I mean it is okay to stay at a Disney resort and NOT GO TO A PARK?? It seems that some people think WDW IS ALL ABOUT THE PARKS???!!!! This is bugging me. Why do some people think that it is CRAZY if you spend a day at the resort doing nothing but enjoying what that resort offers???? grrrrrrr

I am no longer a COMMANDO park go'er but some are. That is fine....we all see Disney through different eyes. I just get annoyed when people think I am crazy to just want to hang at the pool three days out of a 7 day trip or spend a day shopping or visting another resort. Why do some people think that if you go to Disney for a week that every day has to be spent in the parks??? I am over that.

WDW is relatively expensive, so initially most people think commando style is the only way WDW is worth the $$$
Some might get forced into taking some park breaks just to avoid complete exhaustion, but for others the relaxation may never happen until they own DVC (Where they know they will return) and getting an AP (Where you feel OK making a short park visit for one ride or a meal) for the relaxation to become rational. Those may be the type of people that will ony buy DVC if it makes $$$ sense. And if they currently only stay in values or moderates, they probably do not understand wanting to spend more room time, and the $$$ savings do not really exist for them.

We do spend most of our days in the parks, but we take the time to relax and smell the roses along the way. If we get tired, or want to rest, we go back to the resort instead of pushing ourselves to see everything. And sine we usually 8 to 10 days, there are a few non-park days thrown in, or we may go do something relaxing offsite. I usually make a lunch ADR for about 1/2 of the days of our trip. The rest of our meals are just whatever is handy, so we aren't tied to a specific touring plan.

We told people we only did 2 of the 4 parks at WDW on our 2nd last week-long WDW trip and they thought we're nuts. We enjoyed the pools and lounging around at our DVC resorts for most of that trip!

This last DL trip on Labour Day weekend, we only went on ONE ride in 2 days. That made eyes roll! I loved the expressions on their faces.

Not that we've given up on parks' rides and attractions . . . but sometimes we love to just soak up the ambience of the parks and resorts without going commando. DVC has certainly given us the excuse with more frequent visits to slow down our pace a bit, which we've always wanted to do. Skip a park or two, go back to your hotel early or leave late for the parks . . . or enjoy a day back at your lovely DVC resort.

DW and I spent 5 days at the world in April and maybe spent 10% of our time in the parks. We mostly hung around SAB, shopped, went to the movies and had some very good meals.

We loved the factthat we dont feel "pressured" to get everything in. WE are going again this April and plan to spend 6 days "hanging out" at BCV and hitting the parks for 1/2 days. In October we are going for 10 days and taking friends who have never been to WDW and we will probably hit the comando style for that trip.

You are right...most people tie the parks in with Disney but to those of us who go often it is much more of a "resort atmosphere".

Well we're a group that don't have issue. Granted, DW and I and our kids are massive park goers. We get to go about every two years, and we just can't get enough of the parks. That being said we're not COMMANDO by any means, we like just BEING in the parks, so unlike our first family trip, we stroll through, just enjoying it relaxedly.

My parents, on the other hand, hardly go in the parks anymore. They still buy passes cause they'll meet up with us in the parks for dinner, or go check out whatever new attractions are there and/or old favorites ( my mother insists on an "everyone in the family come ride Soarin' with me" ). But other than that, they shop in downtown Disney or Orlando, stroll around everywhere else the place has to offer.

We're on vacation!

We make 5 or 6 trips a year to WDW. Co-Workers think we're nuts! Last trip I told them how one day we slept in 'til 10 :scared1: , went to Epcot, rode Soarin' once, went back to OKW and went in the pool for a few hours, then went out to dinner :woohoo: . Next day we played mini-golf and never made it to a park  .
I guess DVCers just see the world differently!:cool1:

Yup - most people just don't get it!

i personally feel its YOUR vacation and if you want to go to the parks or lay
around the pool its totally up to you. Now granted the reason why almost all the "OTHER" people go to dw is for the parks but, we just do what we want to do and when we want to do it.

we were at dw about 2 weeks ago and we chose a dvc resort everyday and took that break and really checked out each resort, we asked at the front desk to see one of their 2 bedroom dvc rooms (which was always available for us to see) it was nice to check out the other resorts and it broke up the day from the parks.

OH that is fun. I had no idea we could see a villa like that at another resort unless it was a model.

yes you can Unless there isn't one available. Just go up to the front desk and ask of course we showed our dvc card and they were very happy to show us. We are going next year for my dd's sweet 16 so she is bringing 3 of her friends so we are looking for a 2 bedroom and she (if available on our 7th month) is going to pick out which resort she wants to stay at. so we did have some kind of mission here on this trip away from the parks but we did slow walks around the grounds and checked out the shops stopped for a cocktail and just looked around it was fun :thumbsup2

We go to the parks everyday while at WDW, but that's one of the things we like most about staying at BWV and having an AP. If we want to go for a walk in the evening, it is often around World Showcase.

Of course, people think we are crazy becuase when we go to Maui, there are many days we don't make it to the beach! To each his (or her) own! -- Suzanne

We enjoy hanging out at the pool, going to DTD, visiting the different resorts,
taking the boat to the different resorts, riding the monorail to different resorts, and mini golfing. This year will be 3 nights at OKW and 5 nights at VB, probably won't go to the parks again. I am sure thay will still be there when we get around to going again. Thats the thing about DVC, lots of options for everyones vacation styles. Maybe we will rent a pontoon boat on Bay Lake this year.:yay:

OP I feel your pain;)

People think I just sit in a hot sweaty park all day eating hotdogs and mickey ears:confused3
Little do they "get" that I am waking up in a luxurious villa....enjoying my coffee and the view....MIGHT go to a park....Will definately swim and enjoy a fabulous dinner.

Before we bought into DVC our stays were in the world, but at the Disney moderates. Back then, it was all about Disney. The room was a place to go to at the end of the day. Now DVC allows us to make the resort the destination and from time to time throw in some WDW. DVC seems to pay special attention to theme and other facilities and amenities that make living at the resort fun and/or comfortable. I think it is what sets aside DVC from other timeshares (within the continental U.S.).

So, I think it is really a matter of not yet having the DVC experience that lends to some Disney lovers not understanding DVC and thinking that it is all about WDW.

Don't get frustrated. You may have to explain time and again, but I when you can take credit for that first convert to DVC, you feel like you have really done someone a great service. JMHO

:beach:

We have always taken our time at the Parks. We only spend a few hours at a time. I have never loved tried cranky kids, my children are much more enjoyable when they are not tried and they have more fun as well.

However ...does it ever bother you when someone just makes comments and JUST DOESN'T GET DVC???? OR AT LEAST THE WAY YOU DVC?? I

Doesn't bother me at all - but that's because I give no credibility to the person's opinion and don't engage in wasting my time trying to convince them. I know what I like & what's right for me....I don't give a hoot if the other person has different opinions. Those opinions don't really even exist for me, and why should they??

I can't think of a single person - at work, friends, neighbors - who question my choices, and perhaps that's because they somehow know it's not going to phase me at all.

I guess that is one way to handle it.
