Have to give everyone a heads up about DVC - we just had a very, very nasty experience that has soured us on Disney for the present. We did purchase DVC during our December trip, on the basis that we 10 days to decide (you cannot purchase DVC direct from Disney from Alberta, you have to buy it down there) - we cancelled in time, however due to some mixup on Disney's end, it was not cancelled, and our credit card was charged for $17K. Although Disney acknowledged the error verbally to us (with apologies), from several different sources, several times, they would not put it in writing and fought the charge with the credit card company. It was finally credited back yesterday. We had originally cancelled because we were going to buy DVC resale at the BC as we love the Beach Club, but with what has happened, that plan has been put on hold. Lesson learned, it you do buy and cancel - cancel the credit card you gave them for your final payment. I know there are many thousands of you out there who had no problems, and I did hesitate before posting this, but if it helps out one person from going through the hell we have in the last three months, it will be worth it.

It is a good lesson for everyone that when rescinding timeshare contracts, follow the language in the contract to a T! Calgary DISHeads, don't know if you have visited TUG but you can find some great timeshare info. there, including DVC from people who have learned the hard way about maximizing your ts dollars.

i must be missing something. Granted Disney didn't put it in writing, but isn't it a good thing that they themselves fought the charge with the CC company?

I'm going to guess that the credit card was a Canadian one and that might have been the issue? If not, I think sometimes some credit card companies do take a long time to process charge backs. Three months would not be out of that realm with some companies.

Much agreed and i am sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience. If you called to cancel verbally, there is no leg for you to stand on when it comes to claiming your cancelled contract. However, if you followed the directions and sent a letter registered, it would not have been an issue. It sounds like you are fortunate that the real estate contract was cancelled if you did not follow the T&C of the agreement. If you did follow the T&C for cancellation, shame on Disney!

yikes! How unfortunate. I can't imagine how stressed you were. Hope you don't stay sour for too long.
