DVC wake up

If the rooms are such a terrible mess that they take so long to clean, perhaps DVC should increase the amount of mouse keeping DURING the stay rather than forcing members out at the break of dawn.

Have there been any instances reported where the guests have been told to leave? I understand that it is annoying if they knock prior to checkout and ask you when you will be departing. And if it happens when there is a DND sign on the door, it is unacceptable. But this might be a situation where people need to be careful what they ask for. The likely solution from DVC may be to change the check out time rather than to hire more staff.

One more thought. If housekeeping comes around while I'm still in the room I usually tell them how much longer I'll be so they know when to come back. Hopefully that would prevent multiple knocks.

No reports that I'm aware of, but it is a passive aggressive attempt to force members out.

Yes they knocked that much. I'll admit I assumed they sat out there when the two times I left the room (one to grab breakfast and one to leave) she was sitting outside the door.
Well, that's not proof that she (or he, in the other post, literally sat outside one guest's door for three solid hours. I mean, that housekeeper could have been extremely efficient and gotten all the assigned available rooms cleaned and now just needed this one. Or the resort staff could have been so well staffed that day that the housekeeper could have been assigned to just the one unit.

Most of the year, 8 AM is well after dawn (cracked or otherwise.) A few days in January, sunrise is as late as 7:45. Then it gets earlier and earlier. April 1 was 7:19, today was 6:51. Eight days in June, the crack of dawn will be at 6:27 - more than 1.5 hours prior to the potential knock.

DVC rooms can be as small as a regular resort room (i.e. AKL Jambo Value Studios) to over 2,300 square feet. They simply take longer to clean, because of the sizes, appliances, guest care... I feel relatively safe stating that DVC Members do NOT wish to pay additional dues.

I would think it would make sense to change "members" to "guests" or "occupants", since the potential housekeeping applies to the room.

That would be reflected in member dues.

The idea that "members" should be treated specially is one that it's best to get over as a DVC timeshare owner, because it will be disappointing to feel that way in the face of how Disney will treat you.

I was using hyperbole.

Fair enough.

But this is only reported at DVC resorts, so it isn't a matter of treating owners specially, but rather, equally. That shouldn't be unreasonable.

It can happen at any hotel. I've even had them come in if you don't answer quick enough. It's somewhat annoying but you really should use the do not disturb sign. Many people are out of their rooms early and I can understand why housekeeping wants to get started as soon as possible.
I haven't had anyone come in but have gotten a knock around 9:00 am at another hotel when we forgot to put out the DND sign. As said above plenty of people leave before checkout time . I know on most of our trips due (WDW and other places) to flights we are out of our room at least 90 minutes if not more before checkout.

DVD members aren't the only guests staying in DVD properties on points. You've also got a variety of point renters (direct, through a broker, free to a relative/friend...) If, in fact, this happens only at DVD resorts - and clearly, from this thread, non-Disney hotels all over the country/world - then shouldn't the thread be on the DVC forum? I

Also, simply because nobody in this thread so far has stated it's happened to them at any onsite, non-DVC resort, doesn't indicate it hasnt .

It has happened to us too many times to count. What I wish they would do is provide a card that we can hang on the door to signify we have left, and the room is ready for housekeeping.

On my next trip, I intend to put a Post-It note on the door the night before checkout stating when we intend to vacate the room and to not disturb us before then.

What about calling housekeeping (direct connection on the in-room phone) and advising them you'll be in the unit until __ and expect to not have anyone knock on your door or clean your unit until after that time?

Because I think the Post-It note will be more effective. It's been my experience that messages like the one you're suggesting tend to get overlooked or ignored.

ITA.. Back in the days when you had to go to the desk to check out housekeeping would be aware of who checked out. In some hotels you check out on the TV...again housekeeping knows you have gone. It would solve the problem if there was some way to indicate that you have checked out...either by checking out on the TV, phone or hanging something on the door. I can see the housekeepers side as well, they have rooms to clean and the room may be empty and they don't know unless they knock on the door to see if someone is still there. This doesn't only happen at DVC resorts. We have had it happen at the GF, Poly, and BWI. Not necessarily at 8 AM, didn't really pay attention to the time but have had them come back more than once.

Because if they schedule housekeepers not until 11, then check in would be moved back to 7 p.m. and people would complain about that.

Sorry, but all a person needs to do to avoid the knock is to put up the DND sign on their door. It is very easy. Not housekeeping's fault at all.
Yeah, I'm actually glad they start checking early because the earlier they get started the earlier those rooms can be ready for the next guest to check in. It's possible we might be arriving at our resort as early as 9am on our December trip. Nothing would thrill me more than getting a text shortly after we arrive saying our room is ready.

If there is no DND sign on the door, there is no way for the mousekeepers to know if the guests are still there or not. It would be ridiculous for them to let an unclean villa sit untouched for three hours just so they don't bug the people who may or may not still be in there.

That said, I never thought about this issue, and I'm glad the OP and other here have shared the experience. I'll make sure the DND sign is out on our last night for sure!

Did you tell them you weren't leaving until 11am?

I am DVC and it happens all the time. Annoying. Sometimes we forget DND sign and sometimes we can't find one. What irks me is rarely do we get a room ready before 3-4pm. So they want you out early but then get huffy about you check in early, BWV I am looking at you.

Okay. It's been my experience that an actual conversation between two people is more effective than a 2"x2" piece of paper, especially when getting the employee name. Clearly your mileage varies.

Look at BWV all you want. DVC check in time starts at 4 PM, and checkout is up to and including 11 AM exactly.

You shouldn't get a room prior to 4 PM. DVC units are two to four or more times larger than resort rooms. They have, at minimum, kitchenette if not full kitchens, including appliances. Many have multiple bathrooms. Most have washers and dryers. It takes longer to clean a DVC unit than a resort room.

It's not that they want you out early. They want to be able to start cleaning the units as early as possible, and if the departing guest doesn't provide any update on actual room-clear time, well, the housekeepers aren't psychic. They have to find out somehow, and knocking seems efficient.

Members dissatisfied with the previously advised check in and check out times should probably express that displeasure directly to Member Services.

Annoying, okay. I'm surprised the OP was upset and not merely annoyed.

This gives housekeepers a mere five hours to thoroughly clean the largest units, which have had minimal WDW-standard cleaning over a potentially long period of time.

Your housekeeper knocked on your door at 8, 9, 10, and possibly 11 and didn't do anything else, including cleaning his other assigned rooms, between knocks? May I ask how you know he sat there for three hours? Were you monitoring him from inside your room?

This doesn't seem reasonable to me. Do your parents typically depart a couple of hours later than they plan? Would they not call you and let you know they're coming - or at least from the hallway when nobody answered the knocking? Or at least call out to you that they were at your door?
Yes, annoying.

I wonder how many of you complain if you don't get your room before official check in time. I do remember the one time we stayed at the Grand Californian several years ago (before DVC presence at the resort) and we were not allowed to check in before 3PM.
I don't complain because I know check in time "begins" at 3pm. Why complain if I know this upfront.
