DVC wake up

We checked out at Bay lake towers this morning. Is it normal for house keeping to start knocking on your door at 8AM to ask what time you will be checking out?

There was a whole, rather pointless thread about this not too long ago.

Did you have your do not disturb sign out?

No, I was still sleeping. We had already packed all of our bags up and had a late breakfast scheduled at trattoria al forno. My husband was in the shower.

at most Disney Resorts the check out time is 11 but some times if you ask for late checkout they will some time allow it. i have never had this issue happen to me. and we always leave around 10 or 11 when we leave any resort. i would bring this up to the manager. they should have let you know when check out time was.

I knew checkout was at 11. That is why is am upset they started knocking at 8AM asking when I'm leaving. I was not past checkout time.

I don't do DVC. But this has happened to me at the hotels, almost always when I don't put the sign up. I think it's standard housekeeping procedure- they want to know where to start/order to hit rooms, and if you haven't got a sign up, that may mean you're already out which is good for their day.

I have never experienced that at any hotel. I'm sorry that happened to you, not a great ending to feel as if you're being kicked out. You should not have been disturbed at 8 am, checkout day or not. Hope you had a great trip otherwise.

I was watching a vlog from a girl who worked in housekeeping in the college program. At least some of her rooms, maybe all, were DVC/villas. They would just get a list of their rooms for the day and who was checking out. Sometimes, it would say when people were checking out but sometimes not. They started early in the morning, so they needed to be able to start on some rooms early. All of the rooms had to be finished before they could leave for the day. They would often knock on doors if they had no check out time info and there was no Do Not Disturb sign. Plus, DVC rooms can take a long time to clean if the kitchen/kitchenette is really dirty.

I guess just always put out the Do Not Disturb sign. We pretty much put the sign up the minute we get into the room and don't remove it until we leave the room, just in case.

That would be annoying. I always put out the do not disturb sign the night before.

It is annoying. I get both sides but check out is 11 am so why not schedule housekeeping closer to 11 and have more over lap for cleaning check out rooms. We had it happen and the housekeeper literally sat outside our door and kocked every hour and waited until we left at 11. We stopped by and let the hotel manager know that's not the best way to treat guests who are following the rules.

When you stay in a DVC resort, be prepared for this happening on your check out day. Villas take a lot longer to clean and they only have so much time to turn them over. Check in for DVC isn't until 4PM (an hour later than standard Disney hotels), but they start asking when you will be checking out around 8AM if you don't have the do not disturb sign on the door. When and if we get this knock, we tell them when we will be leaving so they can plan for us being out at that time.

I have had this happen randomly on any day we are not out of the room by 8. It's true that they won't knock if there is a Do Not Disturb sign out but several times some prankster has removed our sign. I think there should be a way of signaling DND from inside the room that can't be swiped by a prankster.

With all the new magic band tracking they should have the ability to tell if you are still in your room or if you have gone for the day without knocking on your door 3 hours before check out time.

Hmm, I didn't think it was pointless. Almost everyone on the thread hadn't had the experience IF their do not disturb sign was up. I believe only one person didn't have that experience on the thread.

Since we know it'll happen, we put the DND sign up the night before.

Was staying at Grand Floridian Villas, same thing happened. Maid knocked on door around 8:10 am to find out when we were leaving. It was irritating to say the least. Was she pressuring us? Was she trying to wake us up? Did she think we failed to realize check was at 11am? I travel a lot, and I've never had a five star establishment do that -- Rob.

DVC is a timeshare, not a 5 star establishment,

We've had this happen, but not at Disney. We were at a hotel in Washington DC and had left our room at 5am to go to an event at the White House, and DD had taken the DND sign off the door as we walked out. We were back in our room, packing to leave at around 9:30am, and didn't think to put the DND sign back out, when housekeeping knocked and entered quickly. They had seen us leave the room early and assumed we'd left for the day. We were just about ready to go, so it wasn't that big a deal, but it was also our fault for not putting the DND sign back out.

How would the Magic Band tell the difference between going out to grab something to eat, and going out for the day? How would it know if you didn't leave your MBs behind? Housekeeping can't depend on the MBs to tell them whether it's ok to enter a room, and frankly, hk using that technology to track guests is a bit too big brotherish. It's housekeeping, not security, or even marketing.

Because if they schedule housekeepers not until 11, then check in would be moved back to 7 p.m. and people would complain about that.

Sorry, but all a person needs to do to avoid the knock is to put up the DND sign on their door. It is very easy. Not housekeeping's fault at all.
