DVC Wait Lists - Any Advice?

Chalk this up to a lack of experience and not planning far enough in advance. First I looked for an II exchange at a Marriott, in July, in Ft. Lauderdale. I put my name on the waiting list February 2nd, it's now April and no luck. So I decided instead to go to Disney's Vero Beach. I need a 2-bedroom and a studio. I told them I would be able to go anytime in June, July or August. Member Services says there is nothing open till September 6th at Vero, when of course the kids would be back at school.

So, I guess the question is this....do you guys have experience with wait lists for the DVC properties? Do they fill, or do you think I will be sitting here at the end of May going bonkers? I'm not panicking yet. At least not for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thanks.

Is there nothing available at Vero or just not the two-bedroom and studio? If they have something for a date that seems okay to you, you could book that and then wait list the rest.

Also, are you considering WDW as an alternative? You could book something at WDW so you know that you have a vacation. Then you could waitlist for the same dates at Vero and see what happens.

Hi Pam, thanks for the response. They are completely booked for June, July and August, with one minor exception. In June, they have four Inn rooms with a garden view. But I am bringing two families for this, so I really need the bigger accomadations. A 2-bedroom and a Inn room might work, but the 2-bedrooms are tough to come by.

Your idea is a good one. I'd like to avoid WDW if I can, because I was there twice in 2002 and the cost of park tickets every year adds up a little. But it is a possibility. (I can't say to the kids, hey there's Magic Kingdom & Epcot, but we're not going in everyday this time.) Anyway, thanks for the feedback, it's something I had not considered.

You can always stay at a DVC resort at WDW and not go to the parks, but with kids that might not fly. If you were there twice last year, had you considered annual passes? They're cost effective, I think someone posted, at about the eight day mark.
