We love our DVC but do miss our stays in the deluxe resorts, especially the monorail resorts. We are new members (less than 1 year) and have found that we always add on a 3 to 4 day extension for a CL, MK view monorail resort everytime we visit. We do not have children but found that we miss room service, the spectacular view of fireworks and the ADRs that the resorts make for you. Does anyone else feel this way??

I do feel the same way. With only one DVC stay OKW, and the second one begining this saturday at SSR. I definitly miss housekeeping and the other small things that are found at rooms at delux resorts. This is why I may not go with adding on more points to my DVC. Instead of a add on I just may book extra trip and stay at POLY or AKL. Dont get me wrong becoming a DVC member was one of the better moves I made but I still like the regular Disney vacation. :hourglass pixiedust:

BCV, VWL and BWV all have room service available. You get great views of illuminations at BCV, and some areas of BWV have the great views as well. While DVC does not have all of the "perks" that you are used to, you really are not using all the "perks" that DVC has either.

I have to say....there really is nothing better than enjoying sunset on the shores of Crescent Lake at BCV with an "adult beverage" in your hand, and then finishing the night off by having a very private view of Illuminations from the beach...it really is wonderful!!

I would say, give DVC more of a shot....once you learns the "ins and outs" of what DVC DOES offer...I think you may be happier.

ms will make your ADR....

the only two resorts without room service at OKW and SSR.

believe me I wish that OKW would get it. they came up with take out at Olivia - but you had to go get it......

I like to get comfortable and then order room service.

not to have to get up and dressed again - then either walk or take the car....

that takes away from the experience....

Anyway - there are those refrigerators - but I know it always taste better when someone else does the cooking....

I know they say it is technically not the best use of points but why not use points to stay at Poly? I think the points required to stay at Lagoon View Concierge are a bargain because it makes me happy to be there. That is what is so great about DVC. I have only been a member since December but the diversity is what is so attractive about it all. :)

Thank you for the replies everyone! I was just wondering if it was only me feeling this way. I didn't know that SSR had room service. I thought it was only at the Epcot DVCs. I don't want to use my points at the Poly because I do love going to Disney several times a year so I'd rather just pay cash for the 3 or 4 days that I tack on to my DVC visit.

I think Spiceycat's post is a typo - I do not think SSR has room service. I know OKW doesn't, except for pizza delivery from Sassagoula Pizza at PO. Our favorite resort, prior to buying DVC, was the Contemporary. I do miss the monorail, but having a "ride" on it every trip seems to fill the "need." :) I find we are much more relaxed at OKW than we were at CR, no urgent ned to get up EARLY and get to the parks like we felt at CR once the trains began running in the mornings.

We love the Polynesian and GF but have yet to stay at the CR. But we've been staying at the Polynesian since 1983 so it would be very hard to turn our back on those memories.

So we don't. :thumbsup2 Our typical trip is 3, 4 or occasionally 5 nights at the Polynesian followed by 4 or 5 nights at BCV.

Best of both worlds for us. We love the MK resort area. The views of the MK sparkling in the distance surrounded by trees is so much more magical to us than the BW/Y&BC area as pretty as that is. We also love the monorail and the convenience of the TTC to get to Epcot. We love the restaurants in those resorts and going to dinner via monorail.

And then we move to BCV and have more room, the washer/dryer and full fridge. We usually get to see Illuminations from our room.

We don't miss housekeeping at all.

As for ARs, when we stay club level I still prefer to make my own ARs for the most part. And you can always go to the front desk concierge for help.

DVC Sadie....

My DH and I have visited WDW ..every year since its opening in '71. We always stayed at the Poly also had no children...and just "LOVED IT" :cloud9:

Now the kicker..... The Poly was $42. per night back then and slowly increased..

YEA...WOW !! :scared1: :scared1:

Now...my DH is passed..I "LOVE" my affordable, flexible DVC and DO every once and a while...splurge.. at the Poly for a few nights...for the memories ;)

:grouphug: Senecabeach, I also have been visiting the Poly since 1971 first with my parents and now as an adult with my husband. Like you I also love my affordable DVC so I can visit more frequently.

Thanks for responding to this post. I do feel so much better. :yay:

You can get room service at the DVCs that are attached to hotels.

You can get daily maid service for an extra charge, based on the size of the unit you are in.

I, too, tend to stay a few days at a "regular" hotel, then move to the DVC property. I do this for several reasons:
1. I like to stay at the different hotels
2. I don't mind moving...Disney makes it easy by transferring your luggage for you
3. Staying at a "regular" hotel over the weekend conserves some points (those weekend DVC point rates are killer!!)
4. It almost feels like 2 different vacations, especially if the "regular" hotel you stay at is a very different theme from the DVC resort (ie-POFQ and WLV)

I agree with others that like to stay at non-DVC resorts in addition to DVC. I love Disney and the variety of resorts that it offers so I know that we will still spend some trips trying non-DVC resorts. SOmetimes there are great deals that might mean an extra trip or so without dipping into points. I'd love to have many more points than I do now, but until then we will sometimes supplement with other Disney resorts.

Disney Doll, I certainly agree with moving to save weekend points.

In fact if there was no difference in weekend points, I wonder if we would move. More likely we would stay at BCV 2 out of 3 vacations and then do a Polynesian/GF stay. Or maybe not...we really do enjoy the split as well.

I totally agree with the OP.

We also mix our DVC contract stays in with Deluxe resort stays, usually during the same vacation. The DVC is great for the "spreading out" and money savings .. while the monorail resorts (add AKL for us) tops off our vacation with the ultimate in ambience, views, and services.

A great combination !

It's so interesting to see how people vacation!! Because we are low on points this year (insert....my add-on needs to come thru SOON!!), we are having to stay in a studio in March, and for 2 nights in December....okay, we feel SOOO deprived!! My dh walks around saying we are "slummin'".

For us, giving up our beloved 1bdrm does NOT feel like a "deluxe" stay anymore. I know that we will love being at WDW....but we are going to feel so deprived!!! I think this is one thing that keeps us from wanting to stay at any of the deluxe resorts - mind you, we don't cook much!! We just need the ability to do laundry in our room, and "spread out"...for us, that is worth so much more than a "deluxe" hotel room.
