DVC Updates...possible perk and new resort(s), SSR pool

It becomes a problem again when all the fastpasses are gone by early afternoon. Then you are back to having everyone standing in line.
In this case the problem isn't the fastpasses, but the lack of quality rides that are using fastpass.

Practical example: :teacher:

California Adventure at Disneyland resort only had a couple good rides at first. One of these is Soaring, with slow loading times. On busy Saturdays, fastpasses would be gone before noon.

Fast forward to today. TOT opened, with fastpass capabilities. Now we see both attractions having fastpasses available until the evening.

By the way, are we talking Epcot with Mission Space and Test Track for running out of fastpasses? If so Soaring will help alleviate this problem.

The object of fastpass would be to allow you to reserve ride time for 3 or 4 of the best rides in the park. Maybe one at 10, one at 1, one at 4, and one at 7, with lots of variation. This only works if you have the rides for people to go on. Epcot will have this shortly.

Why do you think there is discounting going on at Disney hotels.
But at least you don't alienate:space: offsite customers by doing this.

You hit the nail on the head here. Both MS and TT at Epcot ran out of fastpasses by 2pm every day we were there the last two and a half weeks. Ditto at MGM where TOT and RRC passes were gone before the parade started.

Epcot has lots of other content to do and TT always seems to give surprise fastpasses for HISTA to tide you over. Some of the new Innoventions attractions are quite entertaining for the kids and adults to spend a few hours during the afternoon thunderstorms.

MGM really needs more than the Motors Stunt Show (which will seat 7000 btw - 3x Indi's capacity) as new attractions. Why they don't bring back Superstar TV at MGM with the classic (Lucy, Cheers) and something from the newer ABC world of shows is beyond me. It gobbles up people, cycles quickly, and is fun for all ages given it's interactive nature. It's also in a prime location to draw people. The Millionaire game has run it's course. You could get fastpasses for the next show up until five minutes before seating started the last few weeks and the park was packed. Beauty & the Beast is a great show, but they only stage it four or five times a day so it doesn't soak up much of the crowds. I think MGM needs another RRC type attraction in the backlot area to spread the people out and maybe one more show in the NY/SF cityscape area to complement the Motors show.

That works reasonably well for the current perks - IIRC, you can use your discount on the bill for the entire table, even non-DVC guests. But to use the same method means:

1. Family members - and non-DVC guests - staying with us would have to use a separate line :(

2. They'd have to install room-key readers at every ride (I've got my SSR key from May and my blue DVC card right here! Do I get FOTL?:p )

3. There is no 3. ;)

Again, I'm not saying it couldn't be done (hey, I'm an engineer - it's my job to figure out how things CAN be done). It just seems like a logistics nightmare.

PS Wasn't a DVCer when AP lounges existed - but I've read an awful lot of "We buy APs - we deserved special treatment" comments in the past 18 months....

Well, those APers (myself included until I got a discount email code) are all on pins and needles waiting for any AP rates to be released.

It is nice to have DVC! (That is until you use up all your points and still want to go so you have to wait with the masses...)

No special treatment right now for APers it appears.

One of my good friends is a realtor here in Houston and swears that a Disney shell company just bought up a huge amount of land in Columbus, Texas (halfway between Houston and San Antonio -- but closer to Houston) to build a Texas themed park off Interstate 10. It would connect DL and WDW because all 3 would be off I-10. I add that this is just a RUMOR because I can not verify this in any way but to take his word for it. Maybe a new park with a DVC resort attached???

Hmm-- another site for Disney's America (or a variation of that name)-- the failed Virginia park? It's mentioned in the Eisner autobiography "Work in Progress"

Here are some interesting articles:

Might be nice to have another Disney park to visit within our own country with DVC!, course...
We'll it be a bomb like California Adventure or the Studios in Paris ?

Eisner needs to concentrate on the existing parks instead of building whole new ones. JMO Course, that really isn't Eisner's style. Now that I think about it it wouldn't be surprising if they did build another new park. I think Eisner likes to build up, but never tend to the older things. Build quickly, then leave it and move on... Never looking back.

Hey Eisner, why don't you work on that old CR? Maybe build a DVC there to spiff it up? :p ;)

I couldn't agree more! ::yes::

I'd be happy with a DVC perk of free or lifetime discounted AP's...It only makes sense!! ;)

What frighthens me is the possibility that they could only offer these "perks" as incentives to new members and larger add-ons...and leave everyone else out!

I'd hate to see that happen, too. There is a reverse precedent in that they phased out the original free pass program. For awhile you still got the passes when you bought at Vero or HHI (to use only while staying at OKW) but you did not get passes when you bought BWV.

Thinking Big... and getting back to the original post... wouldn't it be cool if they turned Castaway Cay into a DVC resort!

Our own DVC island, can't get much bigger than that!
