DVC "Truths"

My truths:
4. The DVC attempt to drive direct sales by implementing resale restrictions has failed. Resales are still rolling and direct sales are ticking along at the same pace. Enough already. Make it easier.

At this point, the "culture" of the sales organization effectively prevents them from going back to a time when they didn't have restrictions. While DVC calls them "guides", they're still timeshare sales people, who want a way to differentiate their pricey (partly due to their commission) points from ordinary resale points. Would changing the guides to regular paid employees bring down the price? It could. Another part of the direct sale experience is access to discounts on AP's and dining. I suspect these are negotiated with the parks department and not a cent is coming from DVC to finance the discount. Moonlight Magic and the lounges are most likely paid for by the sales organization as perks. If DVC still sells direct points, I assume they'd continue these as a marketing expense, and would continue these as a direct only benefit. On the other hand, the resale restrictions on Riviera are just plain punitive. They exist only to provide a competitive advantage to buying direct points, using FOMO as the primary driver. The restriction on use of resale Riviera is especially punitive, since it punishes those who buy resale points while still allowing members with direct and grandfathered points to book Riviera. Over time, as the number of resale Riviera buyers grows, they'll find that they will absolutely have to book during the home resort advantage period, or be locked out of using their points.

DVC rental companies are not pricing/tiering their points correctly according to demand.

The flat fee structure is not favoring owners who bought in definitely "better" places according to availability.

They would never go back to no resale restrictions because the reservation website is set up to apply any resale restrictions when affected members try to do any reservations, and DVC would not want to change having those on the website because those are the only portions of the website that have never had any problems working correctly.

Really? Just goes to show that different strokes for different folks. RIV is in our bottom third…
Yep, not sure why but the 1BR at RIV in particular is my favorite room of any DVC resort I've stayed in thus far, so over the 1BR at VGF, BWV, BCV, SSR, & OKW. I guess I just vibe with the color scheme over the others.

I don't care for the Galley style kitchen, either here or at CCV. Our favorite rooms are probably the 2-bedrooms at Aulani (not including GVs/Bunglows/etc...).

The benefit of the skyliner is it's an omnimover, as long as nothing goes wrong. But I don't like that you see things you aren't supposed to see when on it.

We haven't saved any money with DVC we didn't expect to instead we have taken trips we would never have taken without it. This is why we bought.

We have sold about 1/3 of our points for way more than we paid for them so the trips on those points cost us MFs only.

We bought to have points that were paid for so we could take trips as a family then easy winter sun as we get older. That goal hasn't changed and I don't think it ever will.

I totally get this - I don’t love seeing the back of France…it’s trivial in the grand scheme of things but still 🤷‍♀️
I prefer to not see the garbage dump areas you fly over. And back of France. It feels unfinished. I honestly assumed the views would be good and was surprised they were not.

That actually doesn't bother me at all. Epcot is a theme park, after all. We all know the buildings are just a facade. It also doesn't bother me if my room overlooks a parking lot or a dumpster. It's all part of the experience.

This is so funny. One of my favorite memories from my very first Disney World trip is riding the skyliner from Topolinos to Epcot. It was our first park day. When we saw France and Remy from the skyliner, we were in awe. We thought it was AMAZING. Still do. Seven trips later, it's still one of my favorite views!

The problem is not the Birds Eye view of EPCOT, it's the fact that you see things that guests are not meant to see - dumpsters, unthemed areas, etc.
