DVC trips

We have been DVC members now for 6 years but have never done an exchange with interval international to utilize our points out of the country. Our son is graduating from Purdue this year and we are considering taking him on a trip to Mexico or Central America to see some Mayan ruins since he enjoys archeology so much. We were considering Guatemala until yesterday when a mob of townspeople took 30 police officers hostage in Livingston which is 2 miles from the Amatique Bay resort we wanted to stay at. The resort in Belize looks difficult to get to. Can anyone advise us about either of these resorts or others in Mexico where you can visit Mayan temples and ruins?

We did a cruise (I think it was on Carnival) and one of the excursions was to the Mayan ruins of Belize.

I think a graduation cruise would be fabulous!

Maybe you could see if Disney Cruise Line has any stops at Mayan ruins (either Eastern of Western cruises?) .... then you could use your DVC points toward the cruise and experience some other locations/ports in addition to the ruins?
