Looking for comments on the DVC Suggested TravelEx Insurance that covers the entire use year. Has anyone bought this and did you find it helpful if/when you had to use it?

We have bought it every year for the past 5 or so. Hubby has a health condition and if you buy it early enough it's not considered a pre-existing condition. We haven't had to use it yet though, thankfully.

100 bucks for the year! does it cover every dvc trip during that use year? Does it cover if more than 1 contract at different resorts? Does it cover pandemics?

It is $100 for each UY. So, if you have a trip with banked and current points, it’s $200. But, from my understanding it will then cover all trips with those points.

We buy every year. nice That it covers the entire use year points and all the contract/points. Haven’t had to use yet. Would be interesting to hear how it went for people who had to use it.

I am curious, how exactly does this insurance work? (Sorry if that is a dumb question.). If you have to cancel what does it cover, points? Out of pocket expenses?

I posted what is covered on the link above. It however is by state and what may be covered in your state maybe denied coverage in another.

The one here covered late luggage, trip delays by 5 hours, food, hotel, medical and evacuation for the primary person and travel party including associate members as long as their name was party to the reservation. Loss of life and limbs and in the event of being stranded. The coverages seemed pretty generous to me.

It even covers trip cancellation related events in which the primary person was ill and or had to cancel the travel due to someone listed on the trip became seriously ill and unable to continue travel or travel at all. This however will not be taken word of mouth. You have to show proof from one of the listed options on the policy.

I purchased for this year...just because of last year. I read the policy several times and there is just too much to comprehend, however it has travel interruption, lost baggage, primary auto insurance (we have reservations for an Audi and a Mercedes - ouch), etc. It covers up to 8 people in your party staying on your points.

It's totally unlikely we'll need it, but for $100 I was thinking about getting stuck at a weird airport and though we have carry on bags sometimes they snatch them away. I had a bag lost once not fun. SWA just changed both our flights so at least we won't have to sleep on the floor if they ditch us somewhere when we change planes!

I actually came on the boards today to ask about Travelex insurance myself and saw this thread. I guess I am a little confused as to what happens if/when your trip is canceled or interrupted. I see it says trip cost up to $10,000 but what is it based on for what amount of money you would be reimbursed? Is it the amount of points used for the trip times a certain number? I am having trouble understanding how this works with DVC.

You have to read the policy. Insurance is too confusing to have anybody interpret for you. it's all black and white and they write the policy so it is back and white.

There is a different policy depending on the state you live in. I believe if you can't stay (there are many if, ands and buts) it covers your MF's for the UY you paid the $100 for and specifically the number of points in your reservation.

It's confusing. I suggest printing it and highlighting the important parts for you. I don't think you can calculate for every issue, it just gives you peace of mind that if you get stuck at an airport overnight you get a hotel and meals. If your bag gets lost there is $ for that. You bang up your rental and it pays first...those are the details I read about and appreciate. Hopefully nothing goes wrong! Happy reading!

I guess the question being asked here, and it's the same question I have, is that since points don't have a dollar value, what if anything is being covered here? Like, if I spend 200 points to book a vacation and then have to cancel for a covered reason... What exactly is the payout? Because I looked at the policy and as I read it it doesn't actually appear to cover anything except incidental expenses (like airfare).

From what I read I think it covers up to 1 use years maintenance fees for each policy. I noticed one small part on the policy that mentioned it. So I would think if you cancelled a trip that was covered and used 200 points, they cover whatever you paid maintenance fees on those 200 points. I think it would get more confusing if a trip consisted of banked or borrowed points because they are technically from a different use year. I wish they made it a little easier to see what they cover on the vacation club costs. I attached where it says they cover main maintenance costs

When you get the insurance to cover a trip, you must buy for all the UYs of points in that trip. So, if you have a trip with banked, borrowed, and current points, you have to buy policies for each of those UYs.

I’m definitely looking into this insurance after the ongoing Spirit/American debacle. They’re on a third day of canceled flights - 1300 flights and counting.

I normally fly Spirit because I live so close to the Atlantic City airport. As much as I hate going to Philly or Newark, I’m looking there now. Unfortunately all the flights I’m checking for Jersey Week are expensive 🙁
