Hoping this is the correct place to post this question~

I'm thinking we should take the DVC tour on our next trip as the kids won't be with us. Only concern is how much time it takes. Has anyone here done this recently and remember how long it took? We don't really need to see resorts and rooms, just need the facts.

Thanks

We did the tour last Sept, started it around 8:30am and we were done around 10:00am. We had a snack while we wait for our guide. He took us around and discussed the DVC plan with us. Then we had our ice cream and took the Van provided for us we arrived at the MK by 10:30.

Tour doesn't include resorts. There are model rooms at SSR where the sales center is located and at BWV. You can rush the sales meeting if you like, normal time for first meeting is 1 1/2 to 2 hours if you have a lot of questions.

If you are looking for facts, I would read them here in the DVC sections on the DIS. The sales person will paint you a picture so magical that you will feel like a bad parent or partner if you don't buy immediately. :goodvibes

Perfect, we are staying at BWV so that should cut down on travel time. Thanks!

There is a model room at BWV but the sales office is at SSR. If you need a ride to SSR, contact any DVC sales kiosk or the model at BWV to arrange for an appointment and free shuttle service. FYI the shuttle will take you anywhere on property after the tour.

I just took it a few weeks ago. Was told it would take 60-90 minutes. After an hour and 55 minutes we had to leave a tad before it was completly finished (and skip out on the Ice cream which kids were kind of disapointed about) because we needed to catch our magical express bus.

We went on a day where it was NOT busy. Maybe because we had a lot of questions it took longer than expected.

Thanks - I'll have to figure out the best time to do this. Not that I have vacation spreadsheets or anything. :rolleyes1

My husband and I didn't take the tour at SSR, we had limited time beginning of Sept as we had ME picking up at Jambo at 1:00pm. Of course, DVC worked with us because I didn't want to go to SSR and asked if they could fit us in at Kidani. A few calls later, they put us in a van over to Kidani and we spent an hour or so talking about how DVC works, costs, plus we toured a one bedroom and a studio while there. It worked for us and I didn't feel rushed to catch ME while at another resort.

To be safe, I would allow 2 to 2 1/2 hours, including the shuttle van time.

Bill has given you the most important advice anyone could.

Do your research BEFORE you go on the tour, and don't just accept what the DVC timeshare salesman tells you. Research DVC thoroughly before you even consider buying, and the DIS DVC Operations board is the best place there is for that research.

In particular, be sure you understand how a DVC account works, and what you are buying...as well as what you are NOT buying. You're looking at an expensive, long-term financial committment -- you want to really understand what you're getting.

There are many options with DVC, and one of them is buying RESALE, which should save you at least 10-15% and possibly 50% or more.

We did a group tour when we went. It was the last booking of the day and there were several families with us. I remember it taking about an hour once we started... we were a little late getting started because one family was late getting to SSR. The good thing about the group tour was how low pressure it was, although my understanding is that all DVC tours are fairly low pressure. Although we were really interested, we came home, did our research and ended up buying a resale contract.

They are very good about not wasting your time; if you only want the facts that's all they will give you.

We just took the tour last week, from the time they picked us up until we were entering the Magic Kingdom was about an hour and 45 minutes. We toured a studio and 1-bedroom from AKV and a 1-bedroom from Aulani, and had the ice cream. My boys loved the kids area, they wanted to go back again!

We did an quick pitch on Sunday. My dh had already sat with a DVC person on our cruise last year so we knew the ins and outs. We knew we wanted a small contract to start and we were signed sealed and delivered in about 2 hours. Again we went right to the details...and now we are DVC members at SSR...:goodvibes

We went on the tour in mid-September. We told our guide we were in a rush and I told him I basically already knew how the point system worked and what I would need. In total, the tour took 1 hr, 15 mins. I booked the tour through the DVC booth in our resort and they gave a referral form for a $100 Disney gift card, which I did receive after the tour. The only catch was that my husband and I had to attend together. Totally worth it for the gift card. We have since made an offer on a DVC resale.

Do they offer a gift card for single people? I thought I read on here somewhere that if it's one person you get $50 if you book the tour directly from your resort. I'll be going in December and staying at CSR and won't be meeting up with friends until 2 days into my trip so thought doing the tour during my free time would be a good idea.

If you are not married and traveling alone then you would qualify in Disney's eyes for what ever the enticement is at that time if you spend time with a Guide.

If you are married and only one of you take the tour, You would not get the enticement in fact, they will tell you that they want both of you to take the tour.

FYI:
We were in Clermont 2 weeks ago, looking at RV Parks & Mobile Home sites, and decided to hit DTD one evening. I saw the DVC Kiosks, and asked the CM there a few questions. He did not push anything on us, and we made an appointment for the next morning. We spent 3 hours with our guide, and a half hour eating ice cream and getting our picture. I had him show us every nook and cranny of every model they had, and I had lots of questions.
We did purchase a contract at SSR. We were approved for the preferred finance rate, but even that was a little steep (11.25%). I did that only to give me time to replay everything in my head, after we returned home. I got onto these DIS boards, and picked up a lot of info. After weighing it all, I was still comfortable with our direct purchase, and with our price, so I just sent them a check for our balance (we actually saved another $150 or so on the closing cost, since we are not financing). Our closing date is early November, and I can't wait to get my confirmation and access to the DVC website.

first time we took the toor i think it took about and hour and half. This last time the woman was trying to do it quick for us as we wanted to get to a park but then it started pouring and we just took are time so as to keep dry.
