DVC Tour Question

Does anyone know what they are giving you for touring DVC now? I am very interested in DVC but my time at the parks is also very precious so I do not want to take time out of my trip if they are not going to compensate us

I do know that in March, they were giving "free" fast passes for whichever park you were heading into for I believe 5 rides. My sister did it while we were there. Don't know what it is happening right now.

I believe it is fast passes for you and your party. That means you put your card into the FP machine and you will get an ride for that time. Also you get free ice cream at the end of the tour. My recommendation would be to schedule your tour early in the morning. It usually takes no longer than 1.5 hours and the DVC van will bring you where ever you would like to go after your tour.

Some days it's fastpasses, some days it's gift cards (modest value), some days it's just ice cream at the end of the tour.

DVC doesn't compensate the way offsite timeshares do. You won't see the free tickets or free stays that other timeshares offer.

I bought over the phone, never took a tour. If you can't spare the time for the tour, and feel like you can get all the information you need over the phone, and don't need to see the models, it's not an absolute necessity.

My wife and I with all of the kids were at Downtown Disney near the shops at a DVC booth. They gave us $15.00 for each person. We got a total of $90.00 in Disney gift cards. It was the best deal. Hope it helps.

If you have a member referral is that a different discount all together or that in addition to the above discount? We have friends about to purchase and we have told them to use us as a referral but if the discount is better as stated above they should skip us all together.

There were no referral deals being offered the last time I looked. Check dvcnews.com - they usually have up to date info on any deals that are offered currently.

Usually though a referral deal is in addition to others - so I would have them use you as a referral in any case. If they buy, you get something even if they don't (gift card, dues credit).

I, like the OP, was interested in DVC but I never took the tour because while at Disney I just didn't want to sacrifice my precious vacation time with a sales presentation. So I eventually bought without touring. I don't think I missed anything. Friends of mine have told me that the tour emphasizes the versatility of the point system and the possibility of vacationing around the world. Readers of this and other forums know that maximum value comes from using points at DVC resorts. I may be mistaken, (having never toured) but I don't believe that a prospective buyer gains significant insight from a tour. I think a better plan is stay at several properties you may be interested in and study the posts on these boards and then make an informed decision.

Grumpygrandpa, your plan has merit IF you can afford it. I, on the other hand, bought into DVC so that I COULD afford to stay at the upscale resorts like SSR. My son and I were at a value resort for the week and I took the tour and bought on the spot! There was NO comparison between the studio at Saratoga and the room at All Star Sports. I read these boards religiously and have learned so much from my fellow DISer's. But I took the tour again this year with a friend who is interested and learned more. There is always something new to learn How you go about learning is up the the individual. I personally like the ice cream and the Fast Passes

Good point. Some don't have the resources to pay cash rates as they explore DVC resorts. I can see where a tour of the current DVC models would be enlightening.

But I took the tour again this year with a friend who is interested and learned more.

What sort of things did you learn at the tour?

I personally like the ice cream and the Fast Passes

Hard to find people who don't like ice cream. I think I would need a lot of fast passes to compensate for and hour and a half of my Disney Vacation. How many did you get?
