Isn't it cognative dissonance reduction? Cognative dissonance is the conflict between two dissimilar views, reduction is the effort to rationalize one's self our of that conflict?
Hey, I just made up the phrase to sound edumacated! ;)

Seriously, I looked it up here. You can read the whole thing, but the - IMHO - pertinent section is this:
The more well-known form of [cognitive] dissonance, however, is post-decisional dissonance. Many studies have shown that people will subjectively reinforce decisions or commitments they have already made.

Hmm. Not sure about whether it is cognative dissonance or cognative dissonance reduction. Your definition is right, it is the reduction of internal conflict of disparate feelings through rationalization, thereby bringing them into harmony. At least that's what I believed I learned in psychology, which was my major about 1000 years ago (I think Mary Todd Lincoln was one of my professors).

Thanks so much for your time and effort. The results were very interesting to view. I was really suprised at the outcome in some areas.
