Well, the results are in! Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey about how folks ranked the various DVC resorts.

The survey was the result of my wondering what people thought of the various DVC resorts at WDW.

I have read postings, but they provide only annecdoatal information.

Of course I have read guide books and reviews, but they represent the views of the author, acting as critic. I was interested in what real people who have stayed at the DVC resorts thought.

What came next was my creating the survey, "DVC Resort Rating - By The People Who Know"

315 people launched the survey and made it some way through, about 157 completed the survey.

A few words before the results.

  • The intention was to force rank in a number of categories. Forced ranking is tough to do. Especially when two things are close. However, it does cause the respondent to choose which is the intention. A person loves two items, but only has enough money for one. Ultimately, given some internal judgement system they will choose. Again, this is a tough thing to do.
  • The ranking was 1 - 5, with 5 being the best. While this may seem counter-intuitive, think about how we rate hotels, one star vs. five stars.
  • There were problems with the survey. In many ways it was flawed. This one was a one-person job, so I did make mistakes. Thank you to everyone who provided constructive feedback.
  • Fortunately, I have had great volunteer testers for the next survey about the people around us, the people of DVC. It is ready to launch. Watch for it soon.
  • Rather than interpret the data for you, I am providing a link to the results below, so that you can draw your own conclusions.
  • This is only a fun survey, so when you read the results keep a sense of humor :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
So, as Mickey might say, "On with the show"

thanks very much for the time you put into this and for sharing the results

:earsboy:

very interesting stuff,

I know each category could be weighed differently but do you have the overall ave for each resort based on the total of all 12 of the specific questions?

at first glance it seems bcv and bwv finished either at or near the top most frequently( of course they also had the most survey takers)

Very nice job. Interesting results. Many of the results are what you'd think (such as BCV having the best access to Epcot), but others are surprising.

For example SSR has the lowest point 'costs' outside of OKW (and BWV standard view) yet scored the lowest in point 'value'. I'll bet this is because only 29% of the respondents have ever stayed at SSR yet.

It's be interesting to repeat this in about a year after SSR is more fully completed and more members have had a chance to stay there.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Bill

Thanks for preparing the survey and posting the results. I look forward to taking your next survey.

Averaging out the Response Averages for each of the resorts (listed highest average first) you get:

BCV 3.3083
BWV 3.2091
VWL 2.9566
OKW 2.9558
SSR 2.5675

Overall looking at the amenities for each of the resorts I rated much the same as the average except for SSR. I'm surprised SSR didn't rate closer to OKW. We stayed at SSR in January and thought it was great for many reasons. I believe SSR is much better than these results show.

Wow!!! Thanks so much for doing this!!! It is very cool!!!

Very cool! As a newbie who has only visited most of the DVC resorts and hasn't stayed in any yet, I elected not to take the survey, so it was great to read what others think. I'd be interested to see how SSR fairs down the line.
I can't wait to go home to SSR!
Looking forward to being able to take the next survey.
Thanks for all of your hard work with this!

As I was looking at the results I was assuming they may be skewed by a disproportionate number of OKW owners. However, I was surprised to see more BWV point owners than any others.

I have looked at the results, and filtered them so that I could see how OKW owners responed vs. BCV vs. VWL etc and was surprised that for the most part, people tended to be rather objective.

The question where the results did skew when filtered was the one on "ambience." In that case, people always rated the resorts they owned at higher than the others.

Thanks for posting the results! I was curious to see how they'd turn out.

Enjoyed this survey...thanks for posting the results so quickly.

That statement alone provides some useful information...it suggests that ambience is the most important factor in deciding where to purchase points.

I am one of those poeple that is really hoping to enjoy ALL of the resorts, not just stay at one over and over again. That said, I already know that I LOVE OKW (visited someone there for a couple of days) and SSR (formal yet comfy) and you know why? Because they are the two I have seen lol

I think SSR's numbers will go up. I see more and more people kinda "taking back" their first impressions already and seems like the resort is getting some pretty good trip reports!

Thanks for your hard work putting this together :) :wizard:

Or that after purchasing, familiarity - or cognitive dissonance - causes owners to favor their home resort....

good point.

THAT is an interesting idea. "I bought at XXX therefore I must like it best."

I hadn't considered that. Esspecially since how can anyone really define "ambiance." It's rather subjective,

Ambiance is: What floats your boat.

THe implication is that it is AN important factor, but not necessarily THE important factor. I suspect point cost and availability at time of purchase are as or more important. ANd length of contract (2042 vs 2052.) Do you think that all the current SSR owners would have purchased at SSR if they could have chosen equally from all the resorts? WIth a 2052 contract?

That could be the topic for a poll ;)

Isn't it cognative dissonance reduction? Cognative dissonance is the conflict between two dissimilar views, reduction is the effort to rationalize one's self our of that conflict?

wow - i may have to dust off the dictionary for this thread!

Thank you. This was great. OKW ranked higher than I thought it would. I thought I was the only one that loved OKW.
