Considering renting AKL studio but would get a value or standard view, only worry is ending up looking at the parking lot. A big plus for me doing a DVC is having the balcony to sit out on. I'm just going back and forth between AKL and BWV or just staying at a moderate resort, with the motivation behind renting points is saving money. What are the chances of having to look at pavement? I know requests are not guaranteed so I wouldn't expect it but in this catagory what are the better views and how do you request them?

There are only two studios at AKV-Jambo House facing the parking lot, both of which are in the value category. Even if you were assigned one of these two value studios the foliage is so thick that it would hardly be noticeable.

The odds are incredibly slim that you would be assigned one of these two Jambo House studios.

If a view is most important to you, spend a few more dollars and book a resort with a good view. FYI, any DVC view will be as good or better than any moderate room view.

The Value villas at Jambo can overlook the parking lot as can the standard views over at Kidani. If you book a standard view studio at Jambo house you will get either a pool view or a "people pen" view of the savannah, so I always book at Jambo when I'm going for a standard view. A standard view at BWV is usually a view of the driveway up to the parking lot, or around the corner over the tennis courts. I have also been given an handicapped room that overlooked Leaping Libations. I assume that it wasn't needed by someone who was handicapped and it was passed on to me.

we own at both resorts. the value studios @ AK are in small number & in demand. savannah view is of a small one (which we are thrilled to have gotten for the point cost). Standard studio view at BWV has always been of one of parking lot for us. I prefer not being near the elevator due to vehicle noise at entrance to resort.

I enjoy having a balcony but rarely spend more than the time it takes me to drink my morning coffee upon it. I do like being able to open the curtains and have natural light in the room, something I won't do in a moderate with foot traffic.

So how would you request a specific room, building or location?
AKV-Jambo and AKV-Kidani are separate booking categories. If you book "AKV-Jambo Standard View" then you will be in Jambo House.

Requests that are not part of the booking category ("Close to lobby" for example) should be mentioned to Member Services when the reservation is made. Since you are renting, you would need to pass that request along to the DVC member booking your room.

In the AKL-Jambo value studio category, you can not request a view. You get whichever room you are assigned at check in.
Otherwise at AKL-Jambo standard view category, you can request close to the lobby, Giraffe, or Zebra trail.

I prefer the value parking lot views over the painted roof views. :-)

The thick foliage shields the view of the parking lot.

Oh wow that makes things a little better lol

Think of it as you get what you pay for.

If you want a chance at a great view, book the more expensive savannah view. It's the same room...the view is what you pay the extra points for. I should say it's the same room except for value which are a also a bit smaller.

We often book AKV Standard views and always stay in Jambo House (usually request close to lobby or pool). Hit or miss what you get. Sometimes you get sort of a savanna view. Not great but certainly could be worse. When we booked a std. view at Kidani we were right by the bus stop. Convenient but lousy view and heard every bus coming & going. We had a "pool view" value one time at Jambo and pretty much looked at a tree 10 ft from our balcony. There was no actual view of the pool. We have also booked a savanna view at Jambo before and been completely dissappointed with the view and amount of animals (or should I say lack of animals). We have found our views with the the std option are just as good at AKV as anything else. At BWV we booked the higher BW view so no advice from me there….

We had a standard studio at AKV Kidani last June. If you like the quiet balcony to drink your coffee as I do, then it will be just fine. Lots of foliage. However, I would spring for the Savanna view as you will enjoy that more than the foliage. Me, take it or leave it. I just want it quiet. My beef with AKV was the long trek down the hallway to get to our room. And we were only halfway down I felt like. Our recent stay at VWL we had the 2nd to last door at the end of the hallway and that felt much closer than our room at AKV.

The appeal of AKV is the savannah view. Otherwise, it's a bit out of the way and not sure the reason to stay. We've never done standard view there so I can't answer that question. We've had standard boardwalk view and standard BLT - there your worse case scenario is overlooking parking/drives or service areas. Nothing that has really bothered us. The only thing we don't typically like about a standard view room is first floor.

I am also considering renting points to stay in a standard view studio, through a broker - is it possible to choose Jambo house over kidani village? Or is that like any other request that is not guaranteed?

Also, I read that KV has a nice community room and laundry facilities - is it possible to use those things even if you are staying at the Jambo house DVC rooms?

Jambo House and Kidani Village are separate booking categories, so not a request. If you rent points and Jambo is available you can book it.
Don't know on laundry for sure, but that's a long hike to do laundry.
