DVC Room Sanitation Question

On one of the other boards I read about how unsanitary hotel rooms really are. That bedspreads and blankets are not washed between each occupant, not everything dissenfected etc. Is this also true for the dvc rooms? I was just grossed out after reading that post and figured that next time I stayed in a hotel that something would "accidently" be spilled on our blankets/bedspread so that we could request new ones in a bag that I know were clean.
I have 4 children, the youngest just turned one, so you know he will be all over the floor, blankets and bedspread etc. We will be staying in a two bedroom so the spill on blanket is out, Do I need to plan to wash all the bedding the first day there? Also do two bedroom villas have any cleaning supplies such as a vacum cleaner for carpets, broom/mop for the kitchen and bath area? I find I usually need to do those things daily otherwise the floors are a mess.

55 days and counting till our first dvc trip to BCV

I'm sure it is. Don't know why DVC would be any different from other WDW resort hotels in this regard

We all were! :teeth: IMHO, a good reason not to read those threads or watch those TV shows, LOL. The world we live in is full of germs - my doctor says it is not good to try to sanitize it - makes for weak immune systems.

Up to you. I wouldn't. We've always found the sheets to be fresh & clean whwn we arrive.

You will find a vacuum in the closet. Don't recall a broom/mop.

Thanks,
Have fun - try not to freak out - I'm sure you'll all be fine.

Best wishes -

Having only stayed at OKW, I do know here are brooms and mops in the laundry rooms of 1 bedroom and larger units...I thought they were there for decoration, to give it that "homey feeling". ;)

I think that bedspreads/blankets are routinely taken out after each occupant at DVC rooms. I've seen them outside doors at OKW and VB, the only places I've noticed.

LOL! Me, too. Like I'd actually USE them while I'm on vacation.

Disney hotels are cleaner than most places. Your kids will be in the parks all day where millions of people have touched, walked on, sat on - or worse - everything in sight. Compared to that, the rooms are down right pristine. Don't worry, the kids will be just fine. Relax and enjoy your trip.

DisFlan

I travel every week and I find this HORROR over the bed spreads just funny. I have yet to catch a dread disease from a hotel room....

Personally I bet you are exposed to a lot more germs at Disney just walking around then you will be in your room. Think of all those kids, including yours, touching everything they see!

Not to get too far off subject with these sanitize threads but I cant help but thinking about the tv show MONK.

OCD time

I am a bit of a germ freak myself, so I understand your worries. I once met a woman who was a compulsive cleaner, she said she became that way after working for Disney. She said they are extremely picky about cleanliness.
I rarely see a public restroom in need of cleaning at the resorts. Our room has always been up to my standards. I am sure that Disney is one of the cleanest places that you could stay.

Thanks for reassurance. Before I read that thread about the bedspreads and such I had never given it thought and would sit or lie on the bed on them, let the kids walk around barefoot in the hotel room etc. And yes nobody ever got sick. The worst thing is thinking of what someone might have done on those bedspreads and what sort of body secreations might be there and then they're not washed. Yuck!

I ask about a vacuum and broom because my one year old likes to pick his food apart before eating it and when he is full he throws whatever is left on the floor. He can make a HUGE mess, so I would like to be able to clean up after him with ease. Mousekeeping would faint if I left his mess all week and they came in after we left. We really do try to control this but always tip extra at restuarants because of the mess he leaves behind.

As for the parks.. I cringe everytime one of my kids will put their hands in their mouths or go to eat something without washing their hands after being out and about, not just Disney parks. The petting Zoo is the worst for me thinking in way of germs, because not only are there human germs but animal ones as well being spread everywhere. I carry waterless hand sanitizer for such occasions, but don't always catch them or remind them to use it before hand. I think of it as building their immune systems.

Thanks guys

Have you given any thought to what went on in that jacuzzi before you arrived?

Here's another yuck. Think about how the glasses are cleaned. If you don't see dirty glasses in the hallway, or clean glasses on the housekeeping cart, how are the glasses getting cleaned?

:)

And that coffeepot in your room??

:)

I always boil two pots of water in the coffeepot and use it to wash out the glasses with soap......

These stories don't phase me much. The media also go into people's houses that are neat freaks and test them to show how much bacteria there is in an average kitchen. As long as the room is clean to the naked eye, I'm ok with it.

Lots of people clean out the jacuzzis with diswasher powder. There have been thread about that in the past. I did, but then we never used it. :confused3

I don't travel for business anymore, but when I did, I always preferred rooms with two double beds vs. king -- just for that reason. Also, my family thinks I'm a freak because I *will not* go barefoot in a hotel room. And what's up with those coffee makers that are always in the bathroom right next to the toilet? Don't get me started...:scared1:

It's not that big a deal to clean what bothers you. On the first night (while I unpack) I clean up a little. I only wash the blankets--I take the bedspreads off at night and the sheets are changed between each occupant. I run dishwasher soap through the jacuzzi, and run everything through the dishwasher that I think we'll use (usually only takes 2 loads). I bring clorox wipes and go over any surfaces in the kitchen and bathrooms (including toilets and such) and go over any doorknobs/lightswitches in the room.

I'm sure this is overkill, but it doesn't take me long and then I can stop thinking about it for the rest of the trip.

I think you should do what makes you more comfortable on your trip. If you're still thinking about the bedspreads by day 3 you should just go ahead and wash them.

Our OKW unit was so spotless - made me feel like a bit of a slob, really..... but hey! Anyway - we always take off the bedspreads and don't really use them anyway, and we always keep the kitchen and floors cleaned with those brooms, vacuums, and mops because of the bug issues in FL. With 2 kids eating in that 1 bedroom, and we do a lot of cooking, I usually have to sweep everyday and mop at least once. I'd hate to get ants while we were at a park!

ME TOO!! I always have travel slippers with me and keep them right by my side of the bed. My feet go in THEM, not on the floor.

Twice lately when I've been wearing sandals, I've been "asked" to remove my shoes when going through airport security, which meant I had to walk barefoot through the scanner till I could get my shoes!! I know that you're supposed to be able to have your shoes checked some other way, but the security people looked at me like I was from Mars when I requested it. :confused3 I think I'll start packing slippers -- or at least socks -- in my carryon from now on. :rolleyes1

I'm not a "clean freak" about the hotel rooms -- especially at Disney. I totally agree with others that there are a lot of other places at WDW where you are likely to pick up germs. This floor thing is one of my major quirks, tho... ;)
