dvc reservations

hi everyone -

we have been dvc members for approx. 2 years.

on a spur-of-the-moment thing, we decided to try to book a vacation for a week at the end of august (approx. 4 weeks from now). i just called dvc reservations and of course, there are no available accommodations for the week that we want to go.

now i understand that this is very short notice, and i am ok with being put on a waiting list in hope that something will become available.

just for fun, i went to the wdw reservations page to see the available rooms for the week that we want to go. to my surprise, just about all the resorts that we would like to stay at are available.

my question is, does this give me any "bargaining" power to get a reservation through dvc?

NO, because the rooms listed for reservations on the WDW site are on inventory owned by Disney. (They own a little of every DVC resort) as long as there are member owned points avaliable, they have to allow members to reserve. They must not have any left for that period. They will just explaine this if you bring it up. Try the wait list, people always cancel at the last minute.

Cash rooms and points rooms are seperate as Disney owns a number of the rooms.
The answer is no but you can pay $ through CRO if you would like

Most of the DVC rooms available for cash are from points used by members from non-DVC options like the Disney Cruise, other WDW resorts, Concierge Collection, etc. .

In addition, once within 60 days of arrival any DVC rooms that have not been reserved using points are also turned over to CRO for cash reservations. Income from these cash reservations is credited towards our annual maintenance fees. These rooms are also usually still available for members using points - so I suspect that when you called there truly was no member availability remaining.

The 2-4% of villas owned by DVC at each resort are normally used to maintain member inventory while rooms are taken out-of-service for maintenance or rehab.

Good luck and I would try to call back from time to time to see if anything has opened up even though you are on the waitlist. Many people have posted success doing this. I lucked out this week and was able to get 3 nights at Saratoga for the August 16-19 but it was the only thing available when I called. We really only need a studio but a one bedroom was all they had and I was thankful to get that.

Happened to me once back in 2001. I made a cash reservation with MS and then kept calling back until it was all on points.
