There are other threads on this board that members post when they are about to cancel a reservation, i.e., dinning section.

Is there a reason/policy that a thread cannot be created on the DVC section to benefit the members of this board when a reservation is going to be cancelled?

As great as the DVC members of this board are in helping each other, I would think posting when a reservation was going to be cancelled as a courtesy to the group would not be an issue.

What am I missing ?

^ Exactly. Assuming the wait list software works as it is intended to, which it does for at least half of the time, any rooms that are released by members cancelling will be shunted over to wait lists and will not appear back on the RAT for general booking.

Just doesn't work. Dining and FP's don't have waitlists - DVC does and it does often grab dates.

As others have mentioned, the cancelled reservation may get grabbed and thrown into holding for the waitlist to be run against it. But I still think it's a decent idea, especially since the last few times we cancelled reservations (with no current availability), we immediately went to check the RAT and saw that our cancelled rooms were now available for general booking.

The wait list is not perfect so it could be helpful but it could also be used as a de facto rental listing even if not intended as such.

I've participated in threads here along lines of waitlist support groups.

Not uncommon for people to innocently post when they are going to cancel/release dates.

Never thought it might be construed with circumventing DVC rules or management's rules here.:scratchin

I think most of us who have to cancel, post on the Dis Boards for sympathy in our time of need. :listen:

Not so much purposefully the rules as that others see the post and contact the poster. It has definitely happened before. It's not really different than posting the details about possibly selling a contract if on posts specifics.

This isn't a rule or policy issue for me, and AFAIK, it isn't for any of the other DVC mods either..

What are the odds that a cancellation could be grabbed before the waitlist? What are the odds that a cancellation thread will remain on the first page without a pin? IMHO, not very good for either question.

FWIW, the DVC mods prefer to keep the pinned (formerly known as sticky) threads to a minimum. Some of the non-DVC DIS Boards have so many pinned threads that you have to scroll almost to the bottom of the first page to get to the recent activity. We don't want that for our DVC boards and would rather not be making value judgments about which threads are "worthy" of a pin.
