Has any one bought their points through resale. there don't seem to be many out there. We are hinking it is just easier to buy through Disney. I was wondering if they are just buying back what is up for sale anyway?

Anyone?

Have you asked this on one of the DCV threads. This is the point rental thread just to point you that direction.

I think it's harder to find for DVC because they haven't built a surplus of condos, and haven't bought and sold properties like some timeshare companies have done.

No we want to buy points not rent them. I just don't see many out there for resale so I was wondering if anyone had actually purchased their points that way.

I did. I bought 100 points from The Timeshare Store here on these boards.

I initially bought 100 from Disney two years ago. They are sold out now so the only option if I wanted more points is resale. Because they are still so new and the only CA property, the price was not a whole lot less than retail. But I got exactly what I wanted in the same use year as my first purchase and the TS made the whole thing easy peasy. I am happy with my purchase. :)

I love the villas. :lovestruc

Thank you. Our uide actually found some for us. They are 120 pp I have seen only 2 other options out there for resale. Thanks for responding!

We are in ROFR for 160 additional VGC points. We already have 200. :) There are a few other resalers out there who have points, but contracts are few and far between.

I spoke with our guide a few weeks back and she seemed to be able to find some points for our UY. Well, there was a small waiting list, but she thought that points would be available in a week or so. $120 per point, no discounts or promotions. But it's nice to use a credit card and get the current year's points if you are buying a UY that hasn't begun yet.

I ended up finding a resale contract for 160 points...way more points than I initially wanted, but they will go quickly with the high point charts. Waiting for ROFR now. I probably saw 10-15 contracts out there when I was briefly looking. Good luck!

We just bought a resale through the timeshare store, 240 points and got them for 85.00 per point which is way better than the 120.00 I was quoted from my guide through Disney. All my original points were through Disney, they were easy to deal with but to be honest I thought the timeshare store was even easier.

We purchased 200 points resale through the Timeshare store for $84 per point and then added on 75 points direct at a much higher rate.

Ugh!
The ones we were trying to buy aren't there anymore. I am checking resales now. I guess the right one for us will show up eventually.

I just want to make sure you have read about the changes of "use-ability" for resale contracts, as opposed to direct. There are some significant changes.

We have read them. We are currently members at SSR. Which we are keeping. But for the 100 points we are looking for at VGC we don't so much care about the changes. We really are just wanting to use them to go to DL every few years.
Thanks though. I love that people on the Dis are always looking out for each other!

If you don't care about the changes, I would suggest thinking about waiting... we don't really know if the price will drop pp on March 21st. Unless you are going to use them/make ressie before June-ish (depending on closing times), you should be okay.

We considered waiting, but felt the rush only because we wanted to have two fully useable contracts. While we may never use them outside dvc, they are being gifted to our children eventually and want both children to have the options. (And couldn't stomach at least an extra $7K direct from disney later!)

Right now we are on a wait list with DVC and we are just checking out all the Resales that come up. There is really nothing for us out there. It is kind of funny that when you want to purchase something you can't This has honestly never been a problem with Disney before! LOL

lol. It is a bit funny. When we initially asked, it was a good 2-3 weeks on the waitlist according to our guide (June UY). Hopefully something comes through one way or another! :)

We did 200 direct before VGC opened then when we hd the cash to add on in Oct 10, our guide told us they had sold out and the waiting list was 60+ ppl long for our UY. So we found a 75 pt contract at TSS for a different UY which closed about a month ago and are happy with it. Hang on you'll find the right contract ... though it does seem like there's not much that's around 100 pts most are small (60ish) or minimum new member (160+). Eventually when we have more cash avail I'm hoping to add another 50-75 since we seem to be using all that we own so easily!

Can anyone who has bought resale for GCV give me an idea what the closing costs were? I was told they could be up to $700 and that could be a deal breaker on the small contract we are looking for. -- Suzanne

we are in the process for a VGC contract now 160 points and we were told it was $700.

We are also in the process of purchasing a VGC contract. We were told $450 for closing costs, and add $250 if we wanted title insurance.

It sounds like $700 is the going rate so far. Yikes! I am not buying the title insurance, since I know who I am buying it from.
