We are a family of 8 and 1 under 3. How are you safe with renting DVC points? I am VERY interested; especially since I found out we can purchase the DDP as well. Do you pay the renter directly for the rental of the points? If so do you pay via CC? How are you safe guarded that they will not run off with the $$ etc? Please tell me if there is anything I am missing… I am looking for renting points (need 236 for Nov 24 week) for a 2 bedroom vacation home).. I can have the renter book DDP, I get my own tickets.

I rented points at BCV's last year and had no problem. We had a great stay at a very nice deluxe hotel for a moderate price. There are very people who report problems. It is a risk, even if the owner sends you the confirmation letter for the stay. They could still change the reservation and you have no way to check because you as a renter can not call the DVC member services to find out anything the owner has to do it all. I would go with someone who has a lot of posts on the disboards and do a search on their posts to see if they have rented points in the past. The owner calls about the DDP and you pay when you check in. Some owners will allow you to pay via paypal and some want a moneyorder. I would read what Allearsnet.com and Mousesavers.com have to say about renting DVC points. Good luck I hope your experience is a good one.

I'd suggest going to the DVC board and read the caution under renting points...many people do it safely...just get references.:thumbsup2

I have rented DVC points before and LOVED the experience! I rented from someone I knew though, so it was a bit different. I would DEFINITELY go on over to the DVC boards and check out an established member and ask for references. If you have any requests for the ressie, be sure to let the DVC member know and they will put it on your ressie for you. If you want the Dining Plan, be SURE to tell the DVC member ASAP so they can get it on your ressie...if you want until you check in to add it, you're outta luck there. Just know, that you don't pay the DVC member for the Dining Plan...you pay at check in.

Any other questions, feel free to ask! Hope it works out for you! :cool1:

Check the DVC and rent/trade boards for much more information. There you will find tips on decreasing the possibility of trouble. In the end however, you are sending money to a stranger with no guarantees. That said, there are a ton of rental transactions out there, and only once or twice have we ever heard about true fraud. Only proceed with the idea of renting DVC if you are OK with the (admittedly tiny) risk.

Unfortunately, the whole conversation may be moot. DVC books up well in advance. You are looking for a popular week and everything may well be completely booked.

If you do your homework and still want to proceed with a possible DVC rental, get a request up on the rental board ASAP (be sure to read all the board rules before posting.) Good luck,

Sal

Twice with the same owner and once at the spur of the moment. Never had
any problems. It can save you almost half the rack rates. Last Jan, we stayed
for three nights in a studio at OKW for what would have been the equivalent of
a Value resort. :thumbsup2

There is definitely trust involved. I don't think there are many instances of
anything going wrong but it has happened. Do your homework and you'll be
just fine. :goodvibes
