DVC rentals?

Can anyone tell me how this works and how prices are compared to a regular room? Is it similar or more expensive, what are the benefits? Where can I look into the cost of renting more?

There are limited number of rooms for DVC for the Villas at Grand California. We are DVC members, but were not able to get a DVC room for our trip in June.

Pretty much your only chance at a rental is from an owner at GCV 10-11 months out. Price will vary by season (which are different from the hotels seasonal pricing)

I booked the GCV for our June trip last August. It will be much less expensive than booking direct with GCH for regular rooms. Like almost half. Plus we get a kitchen so we can dine in and save some money on dining (we are planning to dine in once each day on average for a party of 6).

We're DVC and managed a 2-bedroom at the 7-month mark for the last week of May (starting the day after Memorial Day). There are several DVC rental outlets. There's also a DVC forum on here where you can probably get some answers too. Your best bet is to link up with an owner at GCV either directly or through a rental agency.

Some perks of the room are proximity to the parks, laundry (either in suite or close by if you're in a studio), and kitchen (unless you're in a studio, then you'll have a kitchenette).

The downside is you really need to reserve 11-7 months out and in most cases, you cannot cancel your reservation. Also, the reservation is made and handled by the owner. Any changes have to go through the owner. You also do not get daily maid service.
