DVC rental vs direct?

I see that renting points for a DVC would save a ton of money.

Is the rooms that much different at say Boardwalk or beach club than booking direct?

The rooms should be the same. The main issues are cost (which you have noted already) and maid service. If you are booking through DVC points, you will only get limited maid service (I believe it is trash & towels every 3 days, full service changing sheets and making beds every 7 days). While this seems like a small thing, it really bothered my husband enough the one time we rented points that he doesn't want to do it again. It drove him nuts to see the overflowing trash, and we borrowed extra towels from the pool (since ours weren't being replenished) and the dirty stack in the bathroom just got bigger and bigger. By day 3, it was pretty bad.

Of course, if the price difference is significant, that may be worth it. If you are booking a 1 or 2 bedroom (we were in a studio) then having the washing machine may make up for a lot of that.

Renting points can save you money, but you have draw backs.

Can't cancel or change your dates.
Somewhat risky, a lot of people go thru a broker for some protection.
Limited maid service.
No control over your reservation, only a dvc owner can call Disney to add things like dining plan.

There are trash rooms on every floor of DVC resorts. As it is a timeshare, you are expected to drop your trash off in the trash room as you go by. On trash and towel day housekeeping will empty your trash for you. You can buy a package for more towels, otherwise they are replaced on trash and towel day. A timeshare is very different from a hotel room regarding services.

We can't deal without cleaning service either, however, renting typically saves so much money that you can add a full cleaning every day ($30 for a studio) and it'll just be like you're in a regular hotel room. :thumbsup2

Close, but no cigar. If you stay seven nights or less, you get your trash removed and towels replaced on day four with day one as check in day. If you stay eight nights or more, you get a full cleaning on day four, trash removed and towels replaced on day eight and then the cycle repeats for longer stays.

DVC members pay for everything the resort offers. So if you want additional towels, you pay for them. If you want more frequent cleaning, you can pay for that, too. Pool towels are not supposed to be removed from the pool to use in the villas because they require more to clean them. The wet towel you wrapped up in should be returned to the pool bin. There are trash rooms available on each floor or each building and you can take your trash to that location if it gets too much for you. There are extra trash bags in the bottom of the trash can. But if you need more shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, coffee, etc, you pay for those as well. They will be replaced on each service day, but you get just as much as you would get in a hotel room. One bottle of shampoo per bath/shower. You get as many towels as sleeping spaces. So if there are four sleeping places, you get four bath towels, two hand towels and four face cloths. If your villa sleeps eight, you get eight, four and eight. If it officially sleeps five (with the sleeper chair or murphy bed), you get five, two and five.

DVC resorts are timeshares, not hotel rooms.
