Looking to take someone’s Aulani DVC booking. First time doing this. Just a question for all you DVC owners.

When someone already has a confirmed DVC reservation are they able to upgrade from a studio to a one bedroom? Despite there showing no availability for others who are checking booking availability? Possible red flag? The owner said they called DVC to check and they said they could upgrade for additional points.

DVC owners can only "upgrade" a room if there are availability to actually book. That also means that any owner could actually make booking.

An owner could waitlist a 1br and if the waitlist matches the 1br reservation could replace the studio reservation. The waitlist are no guarantee of a match.

The others who are checking availability, are they checking DVC availability or general availability for Disney central reservations? The availability can differ between the two. In any event, if you want a 1 BR, make sure the owner renting to you books and rents that to you.

As an owner, if I was renting a confirmed reservation for a studio, I wouldn't agree to change it to a 1 bedroom on the chance that some random person on the Internet said they'd rent it from me if it was a 1 bedroom. It's relatively easy to get a 1 bedroom, and much more difficult to get a studio in peak times or on a short window.

For the OP, I suggest you look for a confirmed reservation for a 1 bedroom, or someone with points who will rent you a 1 bedroom. The fact that the person renting suggested that he could "upgrade" you to a 1 bedroom seems like a huge waving red flag to me.

Just another warning. If you posted your dates on one of the Rent/Trade Board threads, do not respond to DM from anyone other than the owner you are addressing in that thread. There are scammers out there who will contact you through DM and make offers they cannot keep and then disappear with your money.

Thank you for this warning. This was through a facebook DVC group. They group messaged me and then we started sending DMs. Proceeding with caution. But clearly lots of red flags.
