DVC rental - eCheck payment?

Hi All... We are renting DVC points in July at the Beach Club and can't wait for our trip.... Of course, I need to pay for it first. We are renting from someone out of the country and thru ebay (originally got in contact with the person thru Redweek.com and the transaction then moved to e-bay).

The question: The reservation is now in my name with DVC and the seller is requesting pyment via eCheck thru pay pal - which comes directly out of my checking account. I usually pay thru paypal with a credit card. The seller is requesting this because apparently paypal charges him a fee for credit card transactions.

Has anyone used an "echeck" before?... Also - this is our first time renting points and I have no reason to be suspicous - but is it true that the seller can go back to Dsiney and take the reservation out of my name and I would have no clue until we walked up the check in desk?

Unless you have a business account you can't take credit card payments- more than likely the owner is a regular person who doesn't have an upgrade pay account for credit cards.

Anytime you rent you need to understand that the owner owns the points and the reservations they can always make changes to it and you have no recourse- you need to be able to trust anyone you are renting from. It doesn't matter what form of payment you use the seller can always change the reservation if they want to.

If they have a basics account they can only have so many CC transactions and for a small amount, I think it's $500 max, without upgrading their account. IF they have a "business account" as many non business people do for this very reason, they get charged for ALL payments. The protections are basically the same through ebay so I wouldn't worry about it too much. What I normally do for escrow and paypal is ask they pay all the extra fees. For escrow I also normally increase the price by $100 or so to cover the extra risk and aggravation on my end.

I had a renter prefer to pay me eCheck thru PayPal. It is a little more time consuming as it takes 3 full business days to clear before PayPal wiil release the funds. They do avoid the CC service charge however paying this way. Otherwise this fee does get passed onto my renter. So there are pros and cons.
