Why don't point rental costs keep pace with inflation, disney lodging, etc.?

I started watching these boards about 4 or 5 years ago. At that time, you could rent points for $9 to $11 per point. Today, you can still rent at the same price.

I don't understand it. Any thoughts?

It all depends on what a willing buyer agrees to pay a willing seller. It really doesn't have anything to do with inflation, just the value that specific individuals put on the transaction. Sellers are free to ask for more, buyers are free to offer less.

It's mostly a matter of supply. There are a lot more members out there now than there were just a few years ago. In addition, many of them received a chunk of one-time points (Developers Points) as an incentive to buy. If they were unable to use them before they expired, they chose to rent them to others.

All that said, many experienced owners regularly charge & receive more than $9 - $11 per point.

Plus, I think some members are desperate to get rid of their points and they offer them low just to rent them out as early as possible. They think someone else will offer points at a lower price and they won't rent theirs.

I think that over time we will see a raise in rental prices. 4 -5 years isnt really all that long ago. give it time and I'm sure the value of the point will go up as the price of the resort rises higher and higher.

Over that period of time, dues for an OKW owner who bought in near $60 a point have gone up a buck. Lots of people renting points simply want to get their dues, with perhaps a little extra, out of the transaction quickly with little bother.

When you are dealing with other sellers whose motivation is not profit, but covering cost, downward price pressure will be applied.
