I have used points before to stay at the Grand Californian (hotel portion) and had it go both ways - on one occasion after returning in the afternoon to find our room not serviced I called and they acted surprised that I wanted housekeeping and mentioned that when the room is booked with points they typically don't bother. It may be worth clarifying when you check in to make sure they will do it - they may be used to DVC members not wanting it since that is what we are accustomed to?
