I hope this is the right place to post this if not please advise and I will promptly move it.
I am looking into buying points through Disney and spoke with someone yesterday on the phone who told me about some incentatives going on right now. She also said you must buy 160 which I am now reading that you can do 100 or 50. I don't think we would do 50 only because we are a family of 5 so that wouldn't be enough for us.

So anyway my question is what is the process for purchasing points, all she did was go over prices with me and the places that there are openings. What is the next step?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

:thumbsup2 They will get your SS# I think and look at your credit rating if you are financing. Then they will get a CC # for any down payment. It takes all of 1 minute and 30 seconds really. Before you hang up the phone ask if they can make a reservation for you if you are interested in that....many times the guides can pull out the pixie dust if they think the sell is based on an important reservation. We made our purchase on a Saturday over the phone, got the paperwork from Disney via Fed Ex Tuesday, notorized paperwork Wednesday, mailed back to Disney Thursday, on Disney desk Friday. Points for immediate use which the guide booked two studios for us. We got 2008 and 2009 points (Dec UY). About a month later they sent us paperwork letting us know we closed and that's it really.

:) You can buy points at any of the resorts, not just the current ones selling. There are able to do this when they have points to sell at those resorts after using ROFR. So if you want VWL or OKW, they will sell those resorts if they have the points and use year you wnat. Just stick to your guns from what I am told. Sometimes you have to wait for points to be available at those places, but if it is what you want then it would be worth it.

You really need to purchase at the resort where you wnat to stay. For us it was AKV. If you are not sure, then spend time looking at the layouts and You Tube to see them to help you make the decision. If your are only able to book 7 months out or less then home resort is not as important because all points compete form those reservations equally. If you want to go during Oct for F &W maybe an Epcot DVC resort is for you, etc

I gues I could have just put this all in one post--just keep thinking of things.

I think 1st and foremost is to decide where you like to stay when you use your dvc points. Home resort is important because you get to book your reservations at 11 months out vs. 7 months out at other dvc resorts. Once you decide where you want to buy then you can look at the points chart and depending on time of year, size of accomodations and lenghth of average stay you can determine how many points will work for you. I suggest reading this forum it has a wealth of knowledge! Resale maybe a possiblilty for you depending on where you want to buy. There are great deals through resale right now. If you have the opportunity to do a tour at dvc (Disney) I would recommend it.

Thanks for the help. I don't want to jump into this however they did offer to double our points to use this year if we purchased this year. Checking our credit score,Hadn't even thought about that. I hate giving our SS number over the phone would they let me email that info to them.
To be honest I only have stayed at the Beach Club. For us, with our little ones under five you can't beat the pool. I will have to start looking at pictures of the other resorts. Is really hard to make a reservation seven months out compared to 11?

Do NOT email your SS#! Email is not secure. It is very dangerous to email this type of information.

Buy where you love to stay. Sometimes getting a reservation at 7 months can be challenging. It doesn't make sense to spend all of this money and not be 100% happy. The person that you spoke to is now your Guide. Don't let them pressure you into buying now just because of some temporary incentive. Remember they are sales people who's only job is to take your money.

Over the years we have had many different incentives, double points, discounted price, free cruise, developer points, our name on a fountain at BLT and on a robe at Kidani.

Disney offers deals ALL OF THE TIME, so don't let them pressure you.

What's the difference between developer points and double points?

You can get "double points" buying resale also. All those points are is the previous years points given upfront as an incentive. We did buy BLT through dvc and got 2009 points instantly along with 2010 coming in Aug. When I got home and really read and reread these threads I started looking into SSR since I really want the THV. (almost bought SSR thru dvc but decided to wait) Well dvc wanted 97.00 per point (160 point contract) with us getting 2009 and 2010 points same UY. We found a resale contract SSR 160 points for 69.00 per point and it had all 2009 points banked and all 2010 coming same UY as ours. We bought that contract, smooth transaction and saved 4100.00!
Good luck and pp's are correct dvc ALWAYS has some kind of incentive!

Forgot to mention NOT all resale contracts have banked points so make sure you know what you are buying and TSS and other resale agents can help you with the process. If you are looking for new properties like BLT then dvc is really probably the best deal right now and use your guides knowledge to make the right decision.
