We are staying AKV just after Thanksgiving this year on rented points. We are interested in joining DVC, but not just yet. I'm thinking in another 2 years we will be financially able to do so. I would most likely buy resale before our next trip.
Should I take the time to do the presentation at Disney this year? What is the presentation like? Where does it take place? Will I learn anything other than what I have and am able to learn through this site?
Thanks!

One important thing you'll learn is what kind of incentives are currently being offered by Disney for purchasing DVC directly from them. Even if you don't buy for another two years and you buy through resale, it helps to know what incentives Disney is offering at the time in case they have some really, really good deals available, like a free week at one of their Resorts through developer points, a cruise, APs, etc. It helps put the cost of resale versus direct into perspective to determine which is the best deal.

Disney has a DVC sales center at Saratoga Springs Resort and that's where you would take the tour. They have models of some of the various resorts that you can tour there. They usually offer fastpasses and ice cream at the end of your tour. Perhaps someone who has taken the tour recently can fill you in on how long it takes and other details.

It sounds like you've been doing your research and becoming well educated on the ins and outs of DVC, and that's the very best thing you can do before considering a purchase. Good luck!

I would do it. Like the PP said you can find out the current incentives. You will also get FPs! :woohoo:

Both times we took the tour we received $15 gift cards for each member of the family, instead of fast passes. :thumbsup2

NiftyJ88, my husband and I have been talking/researching DVC for two years now and decided we will wait another 1-2years to buy only because I'm currently at home with the kids and not working. We were going to wait till after I went back to work pay some things off and buy re-sale because it would be cheaper. Well we were in Disney 18-25 of July and thought "Lets just take the tour and see the model rooms and we can ask any questions we have"
Guess what? we are now waiting on our paperwork:dance3: to come for us to sign!!!! We couldn't pass up the offer they made us. So to make a long story short, be prepared to buy. Our guide said they can make better offers face to face than over the phone, of course. We were there on the day before we left and didn't need the fastpasses so they gave all of (5) $15 gift cards, including the kids. We never thought about buying direct from Disney, because we thought it would cost so much more, but after the discounts we got it really didn't and I like the fact the purchase doesn't show on your credit report and its alot faster. So good luck!
