I know that at some timeshare presentations, they want both spouses to attend. is that the case with DVC? My daughters and I will be staying at SSR next week, and I'd like to take the tour. DH isn't coming on this trip. Thanks for any info!

Nobody is required to take the tour. You can purchase sight unseen if you wish. This is more of an individual situation. Does your DH trust your's and your daughters' judgment? Definately take the tour while you are there, see the rooms and get all the information you can.

This is a low pressure sales presentation hence no need to bring your checkbook and spouse..
HOWEVER one thing that has been reported is you will get the same offer as if you were to call they may give you an expiration date and DVC may stick to that... I would explian your situation up front so they give you more time or no time limit.

Thanks for your responses. Anthony, Can you explain a little more about the "expiration" idea. If you don;t buy buy a certain point after your tour, are you never allowed to buy? That would seem crazy!:rotfl:

No, no, they're happy to take your money anytime. :)

Anthony means that they may offer you a special promotional deal while you're taking the tour. Those offers sometimes 'expire'; they want to encourage you to buy during or soon after the tour. If you want to have plenty of time to discuss it with your husband, you can always ask them to extend the offer. If they won't do that, it's no big deal. There's always some promotion that's available to buyers.

My DW did a similar thing with my son in the fall of 2003
and came back with a contract @SSR for 240 pts.. We now have 480 (300 SSR 180 BCV). Go figure. :confused3

I went to the DL DVC presentation by myself. Then we left for wdw for a week and toured the models at SSR, but not another presentation. When we came back, we bought 200 points at SSR.

Take lots of pictures for your dh to see.

Also, get your husband in a good mood, sit him down, and have him watch the DVC video. Make sure to ask for a copy of the "Dream" book. That is what pushed us over the edge into DVC insanity. Those Disney people sure know how to market. Also take alot of pictures of your daughters enjoyng the pool and recreation facilities at SSR. Sure it's a little manipulative, but desperate time call for desperate measures! Good luck!

I bought DVC as a "surprise" for my husband without him knowing. I didn't even have to put his name on the deed, but we did take the tour together a while back.

When you take the tour, you will be paired with a DVC Guide and that person will be your contact from then on. We took the tour while on vacation in July and they told us they don't expect a lot of people to make a decision while on vacation and just asked that we contact them within three days of returning home to let them know what we decided. We ended up buying but it was over a week after we got home and still got the incentives. Just take the tour, get the info and let them know you will discuss with DH and they will give you a date to contact them by. Doesn't mean things will expire then, just they will be contacting you.

There have been reports were they offer you the current promotion $10.00 off SSR - $8.00 off AKL or developer points (currently double) if you do not buy by X date then you lose the promotion and must pay full price period. In some cases it has been reported that DVC stuck to this and would not offer the discount. I am not certian but DVC has offered gift cards to take the tour to some or ??? and maybe these are the people who get the expiration date and DVC sticks to it... I would explian your situation up front and inform the guide you are aware of the current offers and can he explain them to you... Maybe they will offer something better :lmao: I would be clear that you can not make a decison now if that is your intention so they do not give you any time limit... If you can make a decision now than maybe you can get a free gift card or something-- It will not be much but hey a free meal is a free meal. It does not hurt to ask what they can offer if you buy now without my husband being here....

I did the DVC tour on a solo trip, and I had no intention of buying on the tour (I doubted we'd buy ever-so gald I was wrong!) To me, it was just something to learn a little about. My guide was very nice, gave me all the info, and filled up my plastic bag with info to take home to DH. Thank goodness my "Disney tolerant" DH was so enthusiastic about buying!
