We have only been DVC members for a few years and we have never felt like we had enough time to spend pool hopping however on our next trip in late June/early July we are forcing ourselves to slow the pace. We will have 4 non-park days. I imagine at least 1-2 will end up being water park days and maybe another at DTD but I figure that still will leave us with some additional down time so I was thinking we might want to pool hop. I know not every resort can be pool hopped (AKL, BLT and BC/YC - I think that is all) but I was not sure about the others and I was not sure about blackout dates. In fact we might seriously consider hopping on July 3rd and or 4th and I was thinking that could be an issue.

Is there a link that explains the hopping process (do we have to check in at the front desk) and/or blackout dates, etc?

From the members site:
"Pool Hopping Information

When staying on your Membership at any Disney Vacation Club Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort, or Disney's Vero Beach Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, you and any Guests staying with you may not pool hop during the following dates*:
February 16 - 23 (Sun-Sat)
April 12 - April 26 (Sat - Sat)
May 23 - 26 (Fri - Mon)
June 28 - July 7 (Sat - Mon)
August 29 - September 1 (Fri - Mon)
November 24 - 29 (Mon - Sat)
Dec 20, 2014 - Jan. 4, 2015 (Sat - Sun)

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

As a reminder, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs."

We take our membership card and a copy of the pool hopping info with us and just go to the pool. Not everyone knows about hopping and I am not sure how MB will effect this in the future.

Thanks for the info but that is disappointing. The Disney portion of our trip is 6/26 - 7/5. Looks like the blackout dates will impact us. I was hoping it was just maybe a one day block. Oh well I guess we will just swim where we belong. ;)

You are going the exact same dates that we are . . . 6/26-7/5 Board Walk Villas & Kidani Village 7/5-7/8 Universal at Royal Pacific. I was hoping to pool hop at The Swan. I have never been over the 4th. of July but am ready for the crowds, the heat and fastpass+ Have a great trip!

DVC members cannot pool hop to the Swan and Dolphin. Those are not WDW owned resorts. It would be like hopping over to the Hilton.

Thanks . . I did not know that. I just figured that if they could ride our buses we could swim in their pool. Folks from the Hilton do not use our transportation. We stayed there last trip before checking into BWV and the pool was awesome!

Most likely, a transportation charge is built into the Swan/Dolphin room rates. All of the Disney owned and operated resorts have to pay for the cost of Disney transportation provided at that resort and that is passed along to resort guests in the room rates. Part of our dues as DVC members goes towards the Disney transportation provided at our home resort(s).

well you can't pool hop - but you can go visit and decide which DVC resort you might like to try for next time.

dinning, arcades, shops

That is really funny. We are at RPH at Universal 6/23 - 6/25. Then Kidani until 7/3 and then our wait list just came through for 7/3 - 7/5 at BWV.

We are anxious about the heat and crowds but we hope to still have a great time and it is our first trip to The Dark Side so we are pretty excited.
