OK, so we may be buying a DVC resale. Is it easy or way hard to turn points in for say a trip with ABD or DCL?

please give this newbie some advice:thumbsup2

I've never done it, so I don't know how easy or how hard it is to do. But I can say that I've heard plenty of advice that says it's not a good value to use your points for ABD or a cruise. I'm planning on a cruise in a couple of years. I'm going to wait and see what the cost is compared to using points. It may be cheaper to rent/transfer my points and pay cash for the cruise.

In terms of the process, it's easy, you just call MS and they'll book the cruise or ABD trip for you.

The point costs, however, are quite high for either option, and there's a $95 exchange fee, since you'd be trading out of the DVC system. Overall, it'd probably cost you less to book for cash than to use your points.

I have used it for the cruise before, but that is when the exchange fee was only $75 and also if I am remembering correctly they were doing cruises as discounted points when they first introduced the 7 night cruises. It was very simple to do though, just call MS and they will book it for you.

We booked a cruise using our points and are leaving in 26 days!! Since we didn't have to pay anything more than the transfer fee, and we had the points to use, it made sense for us to do it. Otherwise we wouldn't be visiting the world this year and we really wanted to do the world and cruise for our anniversary.

We have done an ABD & cruises using our points. There is a $95 fee, but it is easy and painless if you have the points. Most people feel it is a waste of points as each of the above costs a lot of points when compared to what you would use at a DVC resort. But DH&I bought our points so we wouldn't have to worry about a huge cash outlay every time we wanted to do a cruise or ABD, so for us it is a good use of points.

But to answer your question, you just call members services and they take care of it all for you.
