The DVC has posted the new points for the 2004 DCL. Big difference is that now the children are broken up by age AND category and the points for them (3rd, 4th and 5th passenger) gone UP!!

Still glad to be a DVC member but going to start looking for more points on resale!

Thanks for the info on that. We have done two of our cruises on points. Not looking forward to having to use more points for the same cruise, but at least we have the option to cruise on points.

Points, points, I need to buy more points!!!???!!!

It seemed that the points for category 9 at least went down from 2003 to 2004. I was only looking at 2 adults.

I booked the 1/10/04 eastern after my 3-night last weekend. I think it was only 117 pts per person for 2 adults in cat 9. Much better than the 2003 rate.

The adult rate did go down for Category 6 on both Eastern and Western but I will defer from saying by how much - since I'm math challenged ! But it didn't make up for the increase for the 3rd passenger. Maybe someday I'll travel with just DH or DM but for now, I take DS and well, he's worth the extra!!!

Wow!! For a family of 5, it sure did jump quite a bit. For the same cruise we're taking this year, we'd have use 174 points more next year. OUCH!! (Granted my oldest turns 13 this year, but still... that's pretty steep!!)

For the three of us, our point total would jump by 42 points, for the same cruise time and cat. 5, I guess Verandah Man, will be looking for a cat. 9 maybe 4 day, for next cruise. We had to borrow from 2004 points for this cruise in August 2003. But for us, this being our first cruise, it was worth it.

We had to use points from 2002, all of 2003 and most of 2004. We won't be cruising for another couple of years, I guess! ;)

We used 2001, 2002 and borrowed most of 2003 for our cruise last November also. I just figured out how many points we would have needed if we cruised in 2004 during the same week. It would cost 69 more points for November '04 for a cat 6 and cat 11 for our family of 5. Decided to pay cash for a 2004 cruise.

charging more for the different catagories... It does not seem fair. If you book with cash the price for passagers three and on is the same whether you are in a cat. 1 or 12. For our Dec 2003 we paid cash one adult and points for one adult and one child (10) the adult points (cat.6) were 191 and child 57. for the same cruise same level for 2004 the adult price went down to 186 but the child jumped to 85 so instead of paying 248 points I would have to pay 271! I may skip the cruise in 2004 or pay cash for the child and one adult..

I was looking into using points for a surprise cruise for my DD's HS graduation in 1/04. Was really surprised and more than just a little disappointed at the changes in points for the 3rd and 4th passengers - ok, well, I understand in the concierge levels - more people might actually mean more work - but for the rest of us - it's going to be the same food eaten, room space cleaned, beds made up, space in the clubs used whether the child is in cat 12 or 5! The adults are already "paying" for the verandah or port hole. I understand that those paying cash are also paying tiered prices for kids as well. Is there another cruise line that does this? Anyway, I love DCL (and DVC) but I decided not to put all my points into limbo is one swell foop. There will be saterooms available later .... I can wait .... But I hate not knowing which cruise I'm going on and what stateroom I'll be in. Which 1/04 topic do I join?

Ann you still have to pay more cash for the kids as their ages and the cat. stateroom goes up - and DVC cash prices are higher than early booking anywhere - and don't you have to pay it all upfront? That's another thing, I wish you could reserve it w/ points and then pay points and/or cash (if needed) into it as you go. I know - that's wishful thinking!

We have only paid cash for an adult (always used points in the past for the other adult and our son) so I don't know if the cash price for a child is now tiered also, my guess would be yes it is- which is interesting as on DCL the cash price for a child is the same accross the board. Anyhow I didn't mind paying the $1600.00 for one adult in cash upfront but as I said I don't think we will cruise in 2004 because of this new system, maybe just spend the week in grand cayman or st. john instead.

To cruise with points or the combination of points/ cash.....what a nagging question. This is a quote I was given for the regular season-
A CAT. 9- would require 199 POINTS for the points passenger AND
$1529.00 FOR CASH PASSENGER (ALL INCLUSIVE FEES)

or all cash would be

CAT. 9- CASH- $1247.77 pp/do (ALL INCLUSIVE FEES)

Doing the math...if you know your points value, really sheds some light on the actual cost of cruising on points.
My question is, why is the cash quote different based on using points or not? HUmmmm??

AS DH said, "The kid can eat off the adult menu permanently now!"

DM, the voice of reason, said, "Well, for the wonderful child care they receive you have to pay for that peace of mind and your relaxation!"

Still, it's more of a surprise than I had anticipated it to be.
