Hello,

New to the board and am in the process of purchasing DVC (resale at VWL or AKV through Disney:confused3 ). Well I am curious about what sort of perks DVC members typically get (discounts, etc... .). Thanks for any info.

I am new to this also and DH and I will most likely buy a resale at BWV next spring.

I have learned so far, before I answer with what I already know, that the BEST reason to buy DVC is because you want to stay at your HOME resort often. That is the best use of your points. Actually any DVC resort is the best use of your points. Staying at your home resort is the ONLY 100% guarantee since you can book it 11 months out.

That said...here are the perks I know of:

-AP discount of $100 ($125 off of Premium AP)
-some food discounts (i.e., 10% off at Ghirardelli in Downtown Disney)
-free valet parking at DVC resorts
-same benefits as anyone else staying on WDW property (EMH, transportation, free parking, etc.)
-the ability to purchase the Disney Dining Plan (any of the 3 plans) for the length of stay for each member of your party, but a ticket package is NOT required
-$4 off per adult and $3 off per kid at DisneyQuest or the water parks (if not included in your ticket and you go separately)

There are others people have told me about but I forget right now. These are the ones that stick out in my mind!!

People have also mentioned...DO NOT buy DVC simply for the perks. Buy it for the right reasons so you will not be disappointed. Perks come and go and can change at any time. Just ask someone who has owned since the '90s.

In addition, there is a golf membership currently available for DVC members for $50.00 per year. The membership permits the member and up to 3 others to get tee times at a pretty substantial discount on golf at the 4 WDW golf courses. The discount varies with the season and the time of day the round is played. As with an AP purchase, the golf membership is for one year and with proper planning can span two annual trips

Keep in mind that no purchase decision should be made taking perks into account. They are nice, but consider them bonuses - they can and do change. We used to get a discount on hoppers, those went away and we get them now on APs - which to most DVCers is an improvement. Sometimes there is a Cirque discount, sometimes not. We used to be able to hop to SAB, now we can't. Sometimes they are added, for the first year or so of the program, DVCers couldn't get the DDP. Now we can.

ok...got a question.
Do we get free parking to the parks as DVC members? I thought we only got that if we were using AP's.
I'd love to be wrong on this.
Can anyone clarify this? Thanks in advance :)

If you are staying on property with the pass on the car windshield, they just wave me through at the park parking lot entrance. I thought this was a perk, but maybe I've just been fortunate and had a new attendant who didn't know the rules.

Anyone staying on property also gets free parking.
