DVC owners & resort parking

A friend just told me that he read somewhere that DVC owners will start having to pay for parking at resorts. Is that true??? I couldn't find anything online about it so thought I'd ask the experts here!

We already pay for parking via annual dues. I do not think they would be allowed to double dip if we are staying on points.

Members will not be charged for standard overnight self-parking when staying in a Disney Vacation Club Deluxe Villa at Walt Disney World Resort, Disney's Vero Beach Resort or Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, regardless of whether they use Vacation Points or another form of payment. Members also will not be charged to park when using Reservation Points to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel.

A Member who chooses not to use Reservation Points for their stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel in an accommodation other than a DVC Deluxe Villa will be charged for standard overnight self-parking.

Disney Vacation Club Members who wish to shop, dine or enjoy activities for the day at a Disney Resort hotel are not subject to the overnight self-parking fee. Charges for valet parking will still apply.

I did online checkin yesterday and it did give a fee for DVC resorts. I always thought self park DVC was free. I guess I will find out when I get there

There is no charge for parking at a DVC resort for those staying on DVC reservations. They do charge the parking fee to those non-DVC members who reserve a DVC resort through Disney's central reservation system. Noteworthy is that such charges made during the year are used to set off total annual dues. Don't know what the rumors are but Disney cannot legally charge members for using the resort parking lot to park. To be able to charge fees for use of any common elements (which includes parking lots), the right to do so must be expressly reserved in the POS documents issued to purchasers at time of sale. None of the resort POS documents have such a reservation for parking fees.

You can check your charges via MDE, and if they charge for parking they’ll remove it as soon as you let them know you’re a DVC owner. They make errors in both directions.

Did you book your trip on points or through cash via Disney? When DVC owners book DVC via Disney directly, they don’t always connect the dots.

So, owners have reported seeing the charge, but quickly got it resolved, and removed.

Great! Thanks! We book using points and previously were never charged for parking at resorts. Glad to hear that they are not changing that.

No, but you'll probably be charged because the resort billing system doesn't realize you're a DVC owner. Just watch your account on MDE, and if the parking charge shows up, go down to the front desk, let them know you're a DVC owner staying in a DVC resort, and they'll take it off. No problem - it's just that the systems aren't linked.
