DVC overbooked @ Easter--Moved to Holiday Inn?

Hi,

I also asked what is with the high speed internet service charge of $10 per day--something you get for free at many discount hotels. He noted they are looking at amenities at their deluxe resorts and how they compare to other hotels around the country. I'm glad to hear someone is looking at these things.

All in all a good trip, I'd just prefer to go at a different time to avoid the crowds. But we were lucky enough to have all three sons on Spring Break at the same time (2 colleges and 1 HS) so we take what we can get! WDW is always great family time!

And what they will discover is what I discover... HighSpeed is free at the Marriott Fairfield Inn and $10 a day at the Marriotts. Budget hotels give it free, but full service hotels tend to charge so Disney will be able to justify it!

I think that hi-speed is now available free at all the Marriotts. We just stayed at the Courtyard on Palm and had it and my dh's usual argument for staying at a Marriott is due to the free wifi.

I've also stayed at a couple of Courtyards in the past month with free hi-speed internet. One in Chicago and the other in Lake Buena Vista before we checked into DVC.

They had high speed internet service at Grande Vista, a Marriott timeshare. I wasn't charged for it, so I assume it was free during my stay.

yeah, charging for high speed is quickly becoming less the norm. Most moderate type hotels dont charge anymore and alot of deluxe types are doing away with it. But it still doesnt mean Disney will do away with it, they have their own market, I doubt someone will stay off site just because they have to pay for high speed internet.

Disney doesn't directly provide the high-speed internet services--that's handled by another company. I'm sure that bids were taken and long-term contracts signed. I doubt they could provide the service for free even if they wanted to at this point. (And I doubt they would want to. ;) )

We stayed at the dolphin our first night and we loved the heavenly beds, this was our first stay at the dolphin . i did not like being charged $10 extra for internet service, 2 bottled waters, coffe and tea. that we didnt used. after inquiring about the fee, i made sure we took everything that was included in the $10 fee. i also didnt like how the swan charged $7 for parking, $14 for valet. Thank Heavens for staying at DVC resorts. Oh, we did make sure we used the swan & dolphin for a lot of our meals for the 20% off while staying in that area before we moved to the polynesian, by the way the polynesian is more in the $500 a night during easter.

So what happened to the original question on this thread? I would really like to hear if someone staying on points was moved off site, even though I doubt that would happen.

Im sure they could certainly provide it for free if they wanted to, they can do anything if they really wanted to, but problem is they have no reason to.

I stayed at a Marriott in Louisville, KY late last month and paid $10/day for internet access. It's good to know that more places are offering it free now, though.

Since this thread has been resurected, I have heard of two instances where BCV was overbooked. If I recall correctly, one was given BWI concierge and the other I think maybe a larger room at OKW, I'm simply not certain on that one.

I shook my head when I read, checked in this Thursday March 30th :rotfl2: Then I checked the date!!!

I think the resurfacer might have been doing a search on Marroitts or high speed internet access....

Resurfacer sounds mega creepy (like Swamp Thing). I prefer "The Reviver".

Thanks,

Actually, resurfacer sounds more like the guy who refinishes your countertops...;}

Actually, on our first trip to the BCV (Oct, 2002), they had overbooked the 2 bedrooms. They moved us (I think because we were paying cash, rack rate - before we knew how stupid that was!) to the BC presidential suite for the week. It's on the conceirge floor and we had all the amenities. We loved it!

Very, close! :flower: I was doing a search, but not for Marriott or hi-speed internet access. I came across this unrelated, but interesting looking thread and got sucked in. I ran several searches yesterday, and I'm not sure which one it was that lead me here. Before I knew it I was adding my two cents.

I’m glad the thread is back, though. It’s interesting to hear how Disney handles it when they are forced to inconvenience guest. I guess there’s no way January is busy enough for me to get bumped out of my room to the Grand Floridian…Oh, well!

I am glad you "revived" the thread, too. I missed it the first time around, and now I have something to hope for, kinda like the lottery (although I don't play). I am going to start praying that my DVC studio is spoken for at check-in and they have to send me to the Polynesian :) WOW! :earsboy:
