DVC Opinions Please from Parents

Thanks for all of the great insight!

Monkey30 - I got my tat here in Calgary at a shop called Bushido. I took them a picture of the Canada antenna ball and they went to town. I absolutely love it! I don't get much reaction from people here but when I'm in the world I constantly hear people commenting about it. Heck, I even had a woman chase DW and I down after coming out of the Laugh Floor to take a picture of it!

In terms of timing we'll have the finances in order by mid October to purchase but our next trip isn't planned until May 2011. ABCanada has a really good point about buying/adding just before your use year month. I never thought of that!

One other aspect that we need to consider is the emotional value with owning DVC. There is definitely something to be said about the feeling associated with owning DVC.

I guess I'm still on the fence a bit because I have to do more research and actually figure out what happens when I own at more than one resort. Knowing the way DW and I operate I'm pretty sure that it won't take very long for addonitis to take hold!

WE BOUGHT DVC IN 1998 AND WISH WE HAD BOUGHT SOONER, WE BOUGHT 170 POINTS THEN. AFTER A COUPLE YEARS WE NEEDED MORE SO WE ADDED 110. 2 YEARS AGO WHILE WE WERE ON THE DVC MEMBER CRUISE WE ADDED 250 AND THEY GAVE US A FREE MEMBER 4 DAY CRUISE FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR WITH BALCONY.
THATS SOMETHING NO ONE HAS MENTIONED, THE DVC MEMBERS ONLY CRUISE. ONCE A YEAR USUALLY IN SEPT THEY HAVE THE SPECIAL CRUISE. ITS SO POPULAR THEY HAVE TO HAVE A DAY IN NOV WHEN THEN OPEN THE LINES FOR JUST THE CRUISE. AT 9 AM ALL THE LINES OPEN AND IN A FEW HOURS THE SHIP SELLS OUT. THIS WILL BE OUR 4th MEMBER CRUISE. LAST NOV TO GET ON THIS ONE I PRESSED REDIAL STEADY FROM 9am UNTIL 3pm AND FINALLY GOT THRU. BY THAT TIME ONLY A COUPLE CABINS LEFT. BUT WE GOT ON.
EACH YEAR THEY HAVE A THEME AND BRING ON SPECIAL GUESTS. 2 YEARS AGO THE CRUISE WAS CALLED INSPIRATIONS. THEY HAD ALL 3 LEADING LADIES FROM THERE BROADWAY MUSICALS THEY PERFORMED , THEY ALSO HAD MARTY SKLAR WHO USED TO BE HEAD OF IMAGINEERING, DUCKY WILLIAMS, VINCE PAPALI THE REAL PERSON WHO THE MOVIE INVINCABLE WAS ABOUT. MY DW AND I HAD LUNCH WITH HIM AND HIS WIFE ON CASTAWAY CAY BY THE BEACH JUST SAT AND TALKED LIKE WE KNEW EACH OTHER. I CAN REMEMBER SITTING WITH DUCKY WILLIAMS BY THE ADULT POOL JUST TALKING ANIMATION. THE YEAR BEFORE IT WAS LEGENDS CRUISE, THEY BROUGHT ON ABOUT 7 PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE DISNEY LEGENDS CATERGORY. ON THE CRUISE THEY HAVE SEMINARS WITH THE GUESTS AND ALSO TELL AND SHOW YOU WHATS NEW AT DISNEY. EXAMPLE WE KNEW BACK IN SEPT THAT FANTASYLAND WAS GOING TO BE COMPLETELY REDONE STARTING NOW AND FINISHING IN 2013.

I CAN TALK ON AND ON ABOUT DVC. WE LOVE IT. WE GO 2 OR 3 TIMES A YEAR.

BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THE MORE POINTS YOU HAVE THE HIGHER YOUR DUES, OUR DUES ARE OVER 2000 DOLLARS A YEAR. THAT BEING SAID I FIGURED AFTER 10 YEARS AFTER PURCHASING INCLUDING DUES , THAT WOULD BE BREAK EVEN POINT.
