Dvc only??

We thought our DVC stay would encompass any Orlando area stays. After all the whole point was 'deluxe' accommodations at a moderate price. We've owned 5 years however between sharing with our adult kids and family vacations we're not even in our 2013 UY (Dec) and it's stripped with some points borrowed from 2014. We've added more pts, are on the WL for more pts, stayed at the Dolphin for the 2 F&W and finally rented pts from Daddio.

Does anyone else find that their DVC doesn't cover all their Orlando vacation needs??

DH thinks we need to practice more self-control on the vacation front - this from the man who just took us to NY and Canada (his idea - not mine :flower3:).

We never thought it would cover all of our "Orlando" vacation needs. We didn't even think it was going to cover all of our Disney vacation needs. All we thought was that we were pre-paying for Disney resort accommodations that would cover a trip a year. However it definitely helps put a 'dent' in the outputting of "cash" for our accommodations at Disney and the accommodations are 'nicer' than what we would have put ourselves in if we didn't have DVC.

For us, our acquisition of DVC came around the same time as our income started getting larger so though we credit DVC for 'giving' us better vacations, we now go to other places and spend cash. We are now realizing that these bigger vacations would have come about no matter what.

i have been in love with dvc since a year before my first purchase.

yes, i said my first purchase. i have made several.

i started out with 150 pts. and added on to that before the first paperwork was completed. (on site). :woohoo: we were at disney for a week at that time. we added a few more pts as soon as we got home. we just knew that we would want a lot more time at disney.

as it was, i ended up with 800 pts. within 2 yrs. thats a lot for a woman alone but we managed to use the pts. some paid for friends and family to enjoy disney and for adventures by disney trips. taking the family for the whole week fo christmas was the greatest experience and our favorite. that always take a 2br since the children like to take a friend.

we take a couple of days at eh beginning of the trip (every 2 or3 yrs) and stay at universal. 2 days is good there. harry potter is terrific.

i love disney and take my grand children as often as possible and also go alone at times.:dance3:

now that the grand children have gotten older and can not go as often. i found that i had too many pts. and sold some. dvc will sell when nothing else in the world will. i will never sell it all because i love my second home at disney, and feel some pride in owning a very small part of disney.

the wonderful part of the story is you can add on and then sell when your family and life style changes.;)

that was actually the best purchase i every made (except for my home). mine came with a full supply of pixiedust:pixiedust.

We have always borrowed...from the first year we own and wanted to do the cruise. I don't look at it as not meeting our vacation needs, oh Contreras....
by borrowing it meets our vacation needs plus :cool1:

As far as always being in a borrowing status we look at it like this; I will be pushing 80 and my husband will be older than that when our BW contract ends and we'll most likely be dead when our AKV contracts end:rotfl2: So...why not use what we've got while we are young and active and healthy?:confused3

We will deal with buying more if and when the need arises, but to continue to borrow up until the years 2041 and 2057 if necessary isn't even something we think about at this point in time. We like the fact that we can only borrow from one year ahead or we'd have been borrowing into further than that!:thumbsup2

Just MHO.

We are using all but 2 points in the equivalent of one year's points for our October Kidani trip. I have borrowed all of 2014 points, but the March 2014 trip happens right before our April use year begins. I guess that means if we want to visit for October F & W, we might have to stay at Coronado Springs again (yes we have done that before).

When DH was still teaching HS prior to his retirement and we were locked into his school schedule we always stayed off property at Christmas at either Windsor Hills or Windsor Palms in a pool house or once an apartment. Those DVC points are just too dear then. And the pool houses are lovely. We would meet up with family from either Iowa or California for great holiday visits.
