My husband and I are purchasing 250 WVL pts in the next week, but we have a dillemma. We are planning a WDW trip this July to celebrate my son's first birthday (July 14), but we will not close on our resale purchase until the middle of June. We are concerned that there will be no availability if we wait to make our reservation until then.
Does anyone know if we make a regular reservation with WDW, can we convert it over to a DVC reservation once our resale closes? We assume their may be some penalty fees, but are hoping to avoid paying for the accomodations we would like to use our new DVC points for.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Cash room inventory and point room inventory are completely separate. Unfortunately a cash night cannot be converted to a point night.

If there a no rooms available at WVL you may be able to get into one of the other DVC resorts on this trip.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your pending purchase!

Unfortunately cash reservations and point reservations come from two different pools, therefore you can't switch a reservation from cash to points. You would have to get a refund on your cash reservation, and hope there was a points reservation available.

Thanks for your advice... Guess we will have to look at other options for this trip and plan a spectacular DVC trip later on.

We were allowed to make our reservations at the point of commitment (member # assigned) which was about a month before the actual close.

But you bought directly from Disney, right??

Those who purchase resale cannot make reservations until after the resale transaction closes and Disney gets their info into the computer (usually about a week after close).
